    The only thing that really annoys about that is not missing the drops, but having them all on the ground, causing lag.

    Just wait some time. It does that on my tree farm too, but when all trees are cut down it harvests the last block.

    You have a loop because you don't pull the event inside the loop. You receive the message before. So it just prints the message over and over again. Try using Hydras code instead to pull the event and handle the message.

    For Microblocks there is Forge Multipart. For item transportation you have several choices: Applied Energistics, Logistics Pipes, Buildcraft Pipes, Translocators, Extra Utilities Pipes. And since you mentioned RedPower, there is a mod replacing frames. It's not in any Feed the Beast Pack though...

    You could produce steam in a central location and transport it via Liquiducts or Tank Carts to other locations where you have Steam Engines.

    Did you try other games? Are all driver up to date? Is Java on the newest version?

    If you use Pipes instead of the hopper it should be fine.

    My suggestion: Storage Bus on your barrels with highest priority. Storage Bus on Chest on Hopper on Recycler with low priority. Depending on how fast your junk comes in this might not be pulling out from the chest fast enough, but the hopper can be replaced with other extraction methods as well...

    MFR Tree Farm -> Wood -> Charcoal -> Stirling Engine/Steam Engine/Generator Nothing expensive. Good for early game.
