    Skynet Turtles [Theory]

I talk about pausing once in a while and requesting server for updates, for example. Or listen for broadcasts at certain time window - first 10 seconds of each hour or so.

    Skynet Turtles [Theory]

Turtles can receive updates by rednet too.

    Skynet Turtles [Theory]

This is actually how my excavating program works - I make a "digging plan" first. But I do it so turtle can stop at any moment to return to chest, and then continue from same spot.

    Skynet Turtles [Theory]

Practical or not, idea of turtles playing/experimenting with stuff to determine what it is is really fun.

    Better With Forge?

Is BTW really awesome enough to worth all that drama and work porting it?

    Skynet Turtles [Theory]

Last time i checked, turtle will not activate until some player right-click it at least once after placing. So, no Skynet. ...well, unless you have some people in pods forced to right-click new-made turtles. Woah, it all make sense now.

    Mining Turtles

Heh, installing programs is kind of sore spot for CC. Lots of way, none perfect. If it's SSP, you can find "computer" folder in your save, and find there folder for your in-game computer and copy file there. If it's SMP (and you are are not server admin), use pastebin, like this- "pastebin...

    Mining Turtles

if you name a turtle (with "label set" command), then it will preserve fuel level even when picked up and re-placed. So, name it, feed it lots of lava and then use it as you see fit. Also, default excavate is very ineffective, because it digs only one layer per pass, instead of three. So, you...

You have a choice to make. If you had to pick just one mod...

I have a full-cycle UU factory that use strictly Railcraft for item transport. My experience is that RC is probably least laggy option for logistics, but a bit too expensive. Especially for feeding machines from below (furnaces, generators) - I had to use advanced unloaders - that's five steel...

    GregTech

In SSP, indeed, it's easy to switch mods off. And not that hard to edit config. But it can be messy in SMP, so I think modpacks should be engineered with SMP in mind. So people could just login to servers and play there without unnecessary problems. Say, there are two servers with GT, one with...

GregTech vs. EE (My argument *against* the addition of EE)

Quote from ScottWears So, there is no "vs". FTB is not a single modpack anymore, it is a framework for modpacks. So, there will (and already are) several modpacks in it. Probably some with GT, some with EE, some with neither. May be even some with both, though you are right that they will...

    Gregtech recipes = ridiculous?

You don't have to know programming to use turtles. You can download program from the net.

    Gregtech recipes = ridiculous?

My understanding, is that for GT to work as intended, there should be no un-nerfed mods such as TE or CC. What is the point of making recycler with three diamonds, if there is pulveriser? Or dig with pickaxe and jackhammer, if there are quarry and turtles?
  18. Tylor

GregTech vs. EE (My argument *against* the addition of EE)

EE, GT and Thaumcraft are all "global overhaul" type mods (with difference that EE and TC are made from scratch, while GT is frankenshteined from different mods). I don't think they will work right together. IC2 is, technically, also "global overhaul", but it is around for so long, it is already...

I like tools, so Thaumcraft with Industrialcraft colse second. But what are you gonna use that energy for without other mods?

GregTech vs. EE (My argument *against* the addition of EE)

GregTech is not at all necessary to make stuff out of nothing. And neither is EE.
