If it's SSP, you can make a notebook in Creative Mode, then it will have all recipes and you will be able to make a world with Star Fissure. Otherwise, your are screwed. Mystcraft is probably only mod that can effectively permakill you.

Jetpack is quite good option. Very fast. I lived in one-chunk tower for some time, using only jetpack for moving from floor to floor. Non friendly for pedestrian visitors, though.

Using lapis is only worth it if you make it with scrap-fed massfab.

Fillerforest (Forestry logger + filler planting saplings) gives insane amount of fuel for it's price. I think you can get 1000MJ/t from one field, if you use boilers. But needs some work and skill setting it up. And even if fuel is virtually free, you still have to pay for engines and boilers...
