Just go Ultimate and dont concern yourself with pointless obscure detail details like download numbers. Bugs in one pack are going to be present in many other packs as they are for the most part all made up of the same core mods. Bugs come and go, stay updated.

You wont know you enjoy them or not unless you have already played them through. So picking one like that doesnt work. Just go Ultimate and have access to more at once, and go from there.

All Minecraft needs is the ability for people to create their own worlds in their own image. Limiting that based on abstract personal concepts of what minecraft should or should not 'need' isnt a good idea. Choice isnt bad.

Ramdisk loads the game slightly faster. it doesnt effect game rendering, but some people it magically helped. servers yes its always good to have it in ram. An SSD is fine too with 10 people. youd need a couple dozen for a ramdisk to really make a significant difference unless it was a terrible...
