    Yeah, you can move the spawn to other dimensions, make it exact, force beds and enable spawn protection.

    "apparently some of this glass is in the "random things" mod? " The Random Things glass should just use the "normal" glass texture and color it. Of course that was an answer :P. To manipulate the Random Things glass you just change the vanilla glass.

    3rd party tool? Even forge has a build in option to remove erroring tile entitys / entitys.

    In 1.6.4 it's a hard coded list of blocks, in 1.7.10 you can specify one block that will always be used. I might add the possibility to specify the list of blocks that are supposed to be used.

    Too easy

    That's actually not how it works, the Hardcore Darkness config option only changes how dark things are rendered. It doesn't modify the actual light values and also doesn't change the spawning behavior of monsters.

    Well if you just use a harvester / planter from mfr they automatically harvest when mature. Otherwise the Block Detector from Random Things can filter based on metadata which is probably used for growth.
