I wouldn't say Dirwolf spotlights are boring they are teasers that can show you what the mod is all about and if you want to get into it or not. But Spotlight isn't tutorial and it's not design to teach you. As to DW20 I think he is enjoying mod as he plays with it fair bit in his server series.

I'm not saying it's perfect but I simply don't share the same expiriece as you. I play with thaumcraft a lot it is one of first mods I start new game with and never had problems like you do. But I admit it would be great if you could somehow use aspects you don't get to use in most reserch.

easy mode should be called grinding mode :p It requires more aspects to do and often aspects than you don't have. I actually consider playing on hard mode where you have to do all the research to save aspects.
