You can't connect to the FTB servers not the minecraft servers.

Set a max of 40-45% of your ram (If you close everything else) to minecraft also minecraft will only use as much as it needs, it will take the ram and prevent other programs from using it so further use.

Yes I have this same issue, also I want to add that wen this happens the console goes crazy with world leaked warnings.

Man they stoped making them in like 2005. also the reason why most macs can play FTB is thanks to the OS (I have intel HD3000 on my mac and I get 120 FPS with everything max on normal distance)
