I, for one, am unsurprised he finds it boring. I'm sure, to him, it is. Go requires a sense of tactics and strategy, with forethought and being able to predict your opponent as key factors. It requires being able to keep multiple iterations of possible future moves in mind at all times, as well as being aware of possible ramifications of each and every stone placed.

So I fail to see why he would have any interest in the game. It simply doesn't play to his strengths.

lol I hear what you are saying. I just have an issue with someone making a blanket judgement on something they admit have no experience with. Its like people who tell me the planet is for sure 6,000 years old. Exactly how do you know that? Were you there? Oh so some guy told you... Thats what I hear when "Hoff" says he "knows" its boring. Yes I read the rules of the game and the tactics involved. I watched

to get a feel for the play of it but that one was quite short so I started to watch a few others.

What I mean by "I do it everyday" is that I constantly create situations paths in my head from certain events. It would be no different from go play. Each move would branch into dozens of possible situations. Such decision making to me is boring.

You place black and white tiles on a board to capture territory with anti-repeat rules constantly? Go is by far the "best" 2player strategy game humans have ever invented, as measured by longevity and popularity.

Not to mention with enough games played that employ different parts of the games strategy and tactics I can reasonably come to the conclusion that the combination of them would bore me.

The most interesting part of Go is that it has almost very few modern equivalents, in terms of its gameplay. The board is so huge, the rules so basic, and the patterns so eclectic that it's difficult to draw a comparison to any other game.

Ok there is so much to say there. First what you attribute to go is the same in any strategy game. Each move has a consequence and a logic structure to it or "tree" Chess is just as structured. But at least you checked it out and made your decision. Do all strategy games bother you? Further why do something for a living you dont like? Anyways idk why but your answers always seem very odd to me. Like you might be smart but then like ur head is broken. Is your wisdom low? Just curious because I dont think you are trying to be so obtuse.

It is not possible to play successful go this way. You can do it for local games. But unlike Chess, Go has a concept of "playing elsewhere" that is very difficult for micro-managers to play with. The best players will play hundreds of moves in advance. You cannot play it exactly like chess the way you describe.

However, for trainer 9x9 boards that strategy would be good. It's just an incredibly elementary way to play the game and not sufficient for all but the most novice players on bigger boards.

Krin is right, Go has significantly more possibilities then chess. This is why go programs cant keep up with a human. Our pattern recognition and intuition allow us to focus on specific paths that lead to a better understand of the principles of Go then a data crunching computer. Many times I am able to turn around a game of Go by working on another part of the board. I play chess regularly and have a decent rating on chess.com (2200+) So know strategy games well...

And of course it's obvious that no game has all the exact elements from it but each element of the game is present in game I have previously played and can draw a reasonable idea of the combination of those elements.

Correct. I dislike strategy games. They bore me. I also don't do it for a living I've done it since I was able to think. I think in terms of such measures.

I understand you'd need to be hundreds of moves down these logic paths not to mention account for your opponents playstyle, deviations from such playstyle, adjusting your own, etc. After several times playing the game I would have the entire paths set out for different parts of the board, different common captures etc. This is not something I could ever see as enjoyable. I already do it naturally with most things in life.

Wisdom and intelligence are not dichotomies of each other. You can be wise and smart at the same time. Street smarts has very little to do with wisdom. Wisdom is being able to understand people with limited data. A certain type of empathy that stretches to emotional understanding. People with high wisdom tend to reason more with intuition then sensation or thinking function. Intuition is the ability to make intelligent leaps of understanding that dont follow linear paths of logic. In fact that unpredictability in chess and games in general is exactly why I am so good. If you expect everything YOU calculate to be precise then you are unwise. That is the inherent flaw in your understanding of strategy games and human thought in general. Have you read Dune? You are like a mentat that believes his data is perfect. You need to realize that your human perception can be flawed and that your data could be wrong. Assuming your unconscious doesn't trigger sometimes in your life is exactly why people struggle with you man. Strategy games help you get a read of your mental faculties and your ability to handle data. There are other smart people out there to battle your wits against and get stronger.
