It is like the new flint steel. I thought it was a great idea to require a steel nugget for a flint steel, until I thought about it. Just to go to the Nether you are going to need boat loads of energy, and an industrial blast furnace. You can't use a RC blast furnace because those require going to the nether. *sigh*. This also means you need a blast furnace BEFORE a macerator. *sigh*.

Oh, and also, Sengir needs to be boo'd for those stupid Multifarms. Arboretums, and farms were awesome. Multi-farms are stupid. They are a bitch to make, you need a ton of shit to use them, and they can't use vanilla saplings.

And to everyone yammering about time. The thread was not intended to about IRL resources. It was intended to be about in-game resources. Time doesn't matter in-game, it only matters in life.

When I play i love things to be as hard as possible...(thats what she said)
No seriously I feel a great sense of pride in my work when it took a lot of work to get things working.

It's far more basic issue than that. There's not really a problem with Flint and Steel taking steel, or a blast furnace, or anything else, if you're intending for there to be other ways to open a nether portal /anyway/. Greg's talked repeatedly about simpler, one-use, disposable firestarters, and it's not like it's hard to start a Nether portal using lava instead of flint anyway. But the Flint and Steel change was easy, so it was pushed before the disposable firestarters were anywhere near the horizon.

Eh... the old farm styles were incredibly bleh. The issue with the new farms is more that they don't have much in the way of smaller options -- even the smallest take nearly a stack of copper and tin, and simultaneously presents a good deal more coverage than a lot of folk really need.
and they can't use vanilla saplings.
Do you mean how they convert them into their forestry treebreeding equivalent? Is that a severe issue?

Hmm, I think the point to be taken from this thread.. is that the OP was the host in that story and this was just a roundabout way to find out if he was in the wrong when his friends left his server.

Story:
- Host asks a question, but ignores answers and rants away.
- Brought up that it sounds like really Host just has a problem with GT and can just play without it, but no GT should just not mess with things!! /illogical rant

Thread:
- OP asks a question but ignores replies and rants away.
- Brought up that Time is really the resource that many have a problem with being wasted in game, but no OP just says that Time should not mess with the game and just stay IRL!! /illogical rant

All this talk of time reminds me of something Confucius once said: "Time you've enjoyed wasting isn't wasted time". Do you enjoy spending hours on gathering resources for a project? Some people like caving; if so, then expense is not a big issue. On the other hand, if you just want to get to the fancy machines as quickly as possible, then there's nothing wrong with time-saving measures, even if they happen to be as extreme as just spawning in said machines with NEI. Personally, I play with GT, but I have many of the "nerfs" disabled. Sometimes I end up just messing around in creative, whatever floats your boat ;)

By the way Chocorate, the galgadorian drill is, I think, justifiably expensive... have you seen the speed of it?!? It mines 1 block per tick, without leaving giant holes everywhere, and with a proper setup needs no input after the initial setup. Hell, in the latest version of SC2 you can enchant cart tools (they don't last forever, but they still last a loooooooooooooong time).

As I said, some people like just gathering resources. Greg seems to have aimed his mod at this group of people. If you don't belong to that group, then you can always dive into the configs, or just not use it until you have a decent supply of resources coming in (from quarries and things).

Incidentally, the relative cost of some GT things would go down considerably if IC2 ore gen (particularly copper) was on by default.

Simple one use disposable firestarters are a vanilla item called fire charge. In FTB, blaze powder can be obtained in deserts from cinderpearl flowers, so you don't need to go to the nether to make them.

Well, we do have new stuff because of Thaumic Tinkerer. So that's drawing me onward in Thaumcraft research. But I think even Azinor agrees (at least according to MachineMuse) the research system is "no fun" after the first few playthroughs. Which is a shame, because Thaumcraft is one of those spectacular mods that is marred by a mechanics defect).

It does lose it shin when your on your 5th run through it (really the only reason I have not jumped on it in RR). My last time through it I just used my notes. It was much quicker but yeah just really becomes a time sink once your at the point your not really exploring so much any more but just redoing. Randomizing like Ars I'm not sure that would help it. I like the whole resreach idea and how it is basically done with TC3 I just think it needs a over hual. Something to make it more inresting then put stuff in table click to win.
