Unless I downloaded some other mod that messed with it.
I put stone in the furnace, and I got a piece of Refined Stone. Then I could place it, and it broke faster than quicksand with my pickaxe. Then I put it alone in the crafting table and...poof! 2 pieces of stone wafer.

You definitely have some other mod that gives you that recipe. Because all i ever got from smelting smooth stone was wafers.

Also, we need more mods that focus on prettyfying everything! FTB is too technical right now, we need more prettyfication.

What I would dearly love to see would be for Eloraam to make a microblock API, so that anyone who had a mod that added blocks, such as the likes of XBL redrock, could hook the blocks they want into that API and BANG! Microblock redrock cobble!

Awww...
Well, it may have been the mod called "Inficraft". It adds a Chisel and a ton of variations on blocks (including...I guess...refined stone).

Didn't Immibis do something like this as part of his mod? Maybe RP2 should just leave that to a 3rd party so that everyone can benefit. Immibis's microblocks work on a surprising number of things.

Has anyone found a good use for ThaumCraft's Arcane Ear? I really like the concept, and it's so different it feels like something that might have a niche use I haven't figured out yet.

On the subject of Microblocks, one of the things I've always wanted to see was some sort of "Microblock Deployer" tool. It would have GUI with a slot for a Handsaw, and an internal inventory to hold (full-sized) blocks. You'd use mode-change keys to switch between the types of Microblocks you wanted to lay down, and the Microblock Deployer would chop them up for you from the blocks in its inventory, storing the excess in a buffer space.

Of cours, there'd be multiple ways to do that, including AE, but without investment in several resources and multiple separate crafting recipes? Nope.
But it'd still be really, really cool.

And what's the Arcane Ear?

People rarely use it because it is completely outclassed by the minium stone. If you are able to keep 9 slots of your inventory free while doing even the most rudimentary task then you're doing something wrong, son.

Oh I disagree entirely. First of all, it's clearly intended to work with the bag of holding (same mod), which you can use to keep a empty crafting grid with you. Also backpacks? ender pouches? If you can't do the most rudimentary of things, like controlling what you're carrying, then you're doing it wrong... son.

As to the PCT on it's own (vs minium) it's fantastic, I love it; I blur through crafting and menus QUITE quickly.

"I like hitting C to craft anywhere, I hate having to have the Minium Stone on my bar AND highlighted" PCT says "I got you, just throw me anywhere, nbd."
"ooooh... was it iron in the corners and glass in the directs? or the other way around.." PCT says "I got you, just hit C"
"ughhhh... I hate clearing out my table over and over" PCT says "I got you, just hit x"
"dammit, I need to make 20 of x, but I hate clickclickclickclickclickclick" PCT says "I got you, just make the pattern then hit B, I'll distribute for you"

Now this all works on it's own fine, if you combine with the Bag of Holding it goes deeper.

You may think these little things don't add up to much, but just try it for yourself. The distribute and rotate functions alone are worth the price of admission.

http://www.computercraft.info/forums2/index.php?/topic/4587-cc15mc147-miscperipherals-31/ - Note Block Turtle

Make the turtle output a given sound when given the proper command word. Arcane Ear detects the correct sound, outputs a redstone signal, opens a door. Do note, that the Arcane Ear has a range of whooping 64 blocks. If you really wanted, you could substitute every button in your base with Note Blocks and have a command room with note blocks tuned to different tunes, and use that to wirelessly transmit redstone signals. Instead of using Wireless Redstone CBE.

In an interesting note, combining Player Detector, Note Block Turtle, and Arcane Ear, plus MFFS, you can make an interesting setup. Entrance to the base is controlled by a Player Detector. Whenever a player pushes it, it outputs to the Note Block Turtle, which checks if the string matches the player database that is stored inside, if it is, it outputs a "correct" sound, and the base opens up. If the wrong player pushes the button, the turtle outputs the "Alarm" sound, which activates the other Arcane Ear, connected to an MFFS system that closes the base off for a given period of time. Or just encases a 5x5x5 area in front of the player detector in an MFFS field for a given amount of time, effectively imprisoning the offender for a while, unless he has some way of teleporting out.

Those are the kinds of builds I would like to see. So what if they're not nearly as easy to make as other versions? It's just more awesome!

One thing that's interesting about the arcane ear is that it's range is really far. Much further than a player can hear.

Or imagine a system where you have to enter a noteblock code and then flip a lever, if all the notes are recognized by the system, a new note reverbs through your entire (64+) base with ears going into new note blocks repeating the signal making your entire base aware of a visitor or diamond entering your system with the use of fancy noteblocks instead of boring wireless redstone!

I'm a gigantic fan of the PCT, the hotkeys are so very useful!
Guessing not many people use the Mining Well, Direwolf's contraption will probably make short work of that! :D

I do use the mining well if I just need a small hole going down to an arbitrary depth. Very useful if you want a hell pump, but got a horrible spawn in a gigantic, sealed cave system.

Why am I now imagining an organist, sitting behind his instrument, cackling like a maniac and opening/closing routes for conveyor belts, activating traps, launching ICBMs, and dropping arcane bores on innocent nodes :)

Leave Microblocks up to a third party? Sure, if the third party is going to also implement redwire, insulated redwire, bundled cable, bluewire, jacketed wires, tubes, timers, state cells, AND gates, OR gates, and all the other microblock logic circuits that RP implements. The problem - as I understand it - is that all microblocks that can occupy the same 1x1 block have to have the same block ID. Which kind of means they have to be implemented by the same mod. And which also sets an upper limit, which RP has nearly reached already. Immibis probably has the same upper limit, but because he hasn't implemented wires and cables and logic gates, he has more space for different block types, and also has plenty of space for other mods to add their blocks into his microblock system. So if you just want covers and strips and columns and whatnot, use Immibis. If you want to cover your wires, cables, tubes, or BC pipes, Immibis can't give you that. Only RP covers can cover RP wires, and only BC facades can cover BC pipes. CMIIW, but that's my impression of how microblocks work.
