We're drifting into psychology here, or possibly sociology or even philosophy. (That last: Because you asked "what's the point of living".)
There are millions of people in the world who suffer from all sorts of mental illnesses, depressions, addictions and other things that screw with the head. For many of these people, depending on their particular affliction, they can only be happy (to various extents) if other people are miserable.
A meaningful question to ask might be "why don't they deserve to do what makes them happy, if everyone else gets to be happy."
A pragmatic (and rather cold) answer would be: it sucks to be them. They may have a biological imperative to attempt to achieve happiness, but society is going to exercise its own imperative to suppress those who achieve personal happiness at the expense of everyone else's.
Basically it just pays to get off on being kind
