Iron golem farm would be a good investment, very cheaty, but at that scale, I think it can be forgiven.

Already have it and since it works in vanilla, and has been around and not nerfed for a while I don't think it's cheaty at all.

It's starting to look like a ship:

I'm planning on using the top floors of the inner oval as an arboretum/farm with a glass dome. Might be hard to visualize from the interior shot though. I removed all the stone bricks in the top right after taking this ss.

Just a quick status update:

Hull & arboretum. I decided to stop using stone as a temp fill in and just wait until I get the required iron. Putting stone then replacing it just means building the ship twice, I'm burning through wand of equal trades fast enough :) The blue blocks are Tungstensteel, process intensive to make, but far less iron usage. The bottom half of the hull will be same, but made of brass which I'm centrifuging out of lava.

My automated sorting, processing and storage area beta build. It started out very neat and organized, but evolved into quite a rube-goldberg contraption. At least I'll be able to rebuild it better once I have my engineering area complete!

No matter how well I plan my system I always wind up with spaghetti piping and contraptions all over the place after using it for a while.

Your place is looking great! The blue blocks do look nice. They look like hull plating with the rivets on them.

Can't you enchant wands of equal trade to recharge now? I believe I saw that in the Thaumanomicon.

I'm thinking about disassembling my assembly line one more time and re-building it from the start before I start on my final engineering room. I want the "best" setup I can get that still makes what I need- and it'll be easier to rebuild for testing purposes on a large empty platform than in a more confined space.

I do like the tungsten steel. For now, I'll stick to using it for edges and where I envision the major support frames, maybe expand on it in the future. I also like the irridium reinforced tungstensteel, but that's a bit beyond my pain threshold as far as mass-producing it![DOUBLEPOST=1359672196][/DOUBLEPOST]

If that's a change, I may upgrade my game sooner than I was planning. I've been waiting for ultimate to come out...

I believe so. I noticed the new parts in the book but have not done any new research due to my current project.

Only down side is to does not play well with mod blocks.

And Hamster Boo your ship is looking good. Still waiting to see that villager crew though. :p

They wouldn't last long exposed to the vacuum of space :p

OK, I need some advice. I want to start on the walls, but I don't know what will look good.

Like I said before the main area will be 3 floors, each 3 high with a ceiling and 2 high "attic" for energy/item tubes/etc. The floors don't need to show up in the outer wall, I just did it to see what it would look like. Does anybody have suggestions? I tried some Xycraft, but I'm thinking maybe those are better for decorating the walls than making the walls out of them. Iron, Tungstensteel and brass (copper and tin) are all out as I need them for other parts of the hull. Here's a sample I was thinking about but I don't really like how it looks. Maybe black and red xycorium in a type of pattern though..

truth be told. I dislike all but the storage version of the XY blocks. I think they look to 'busy' and while they do look nice up close get any distance from them and well they just don't derez well.

I'm thinking the same. I'll probably use them as accents to the walls and in parts of the ship, but not as the walls themselves.

Ok yeah they I like that or the iron and that dark blue you got up top. Either of those I think would look awesome large scale. If most of the ship is iron white and the orange or blue is used as highlighting.

My brass factory:

2013-01-31_19.50.08.png

The retriever under the battery pulls 3 copper and one tin from my storage area. Most of that comes from centrifuged lava (a good source of the tungsten I've been using also). It goes to the far chest, autocrafts into 4 bronze which gets pulverized, dropped into the next chest. The 2nd autocrafting table turns 2 bronze dust into 4 brass dust and pipes it into the relay which sends it to the furnace system. It leaves there and goes to my auto-packager (to the left of the pic) where it makes brass blocks.

Awesome progress. I envy large-scale builders, its something I always enjoy watching. Sp00n's snow dome on the new Hermitcraft, for instance. Simple, big, classy.

As for your frame shuttle, and recommendations on a cat-drive, I usually pick Rainwarrior's 4x4x4 for compactness. I've built that damn thing so often I can almost do it from memory. Here's the schematic gallery: http://imgur.com/a/EtsNO

The dark blue is gregtech tungstensteel. Kind of a pain to manufacture, but now that the required machines are set up I only have to do one part by hand so it's not too bad.

I would recommend using either red wool of some form of red xychorium blocks for a carpet in the corridors. Similar to the carpets in the U.S.S. Enterprise-E.

EnterpriseE_corridor.jpg

Except with brighter lights, wider corridors, and without the tubes in the middle, this was the only picture I found.
