Right, well, not too sure about this, could've been something else, but after an update of MFR both of my mob essence tanks became rather dry...

I think this is the version: 2.6.2B. Power Crystals would have had to have nerfed slimes though as he stated the mob essence rates earlier in this thread if your version is later than this[DOUBLEPOST=1371668652][/DOUBLEPOST]
That does not/will not work anymore in MFR 2.7. It always was a bug, we just didn't really have an answer for it. Now entities spawned on death are silently deleted as soon as they are created.

Ah ok. Thats a bit of a shame, stops my Magic Energy Syphon/Auto Enchanter build working.

Is that only if a grinder kills them? Or, is the big slime that is spawned somehow different from natural big slimes in such a way that you can control what happens when it dies by any means? Is this the same for Twilight Forest slimes, and would it get in the way of using MFR to farm Charms of keeping?

Grinder (and slaughterhouse) only yes. And it affects any entities spawned by a mob the grinder is killing, so yes that would affect TF slimes too.

PSA: Don't use a planter / harvester near a Natura redwood that you've built your base in. If one of the trees planted in the row nearest the redwood spawn large enough to have a leaf touch the redwood, you will lose half your base.

Shouldn't that go without being said about any auto tree farm near a tree house?

I also still need to see if Bloodtrees can be planted. Power said that its in for plants to be planted upside down, but I have no idea how it works or if it can work. Otherwise mfr is cool.

I had this happen with a Steve's Cart, which is even more pernicious.

On the flip side of that I sometimes get asked to do things like make the planter use water or not automatically till, and to that I say no. The point is to be easy to use. It might need a nuclear reactor to run, but it's gonna be the Minecraft version of plug-and-play, or as close as I can get. That's why nothing explodes (except pink slimes...), because that's not easy to use. That's punishing the player for doing something wrong. Hell, even power converters respond to IC2 overvolting by just popping off instead of exploding. Again, not everyone will agree with that, but I'm not making a mod for those people and I'm ok with that.

The entire notion of machines blowing up is silly and not-minecraft-ish. I did notice that Mekanism has a novel approach: machines that are overvolted operate but discard a ton of power they can't use. So they suddenly become epic consumers on the network, frequently breaking my power grid (hydrolysis generators are balanced by actually breaking their own reaction and shutting down until they receive a fair sum of external power when overdrawn).

Except NetherOres. That mod is where I'm an asshole. You haven't lived until you experience hellfish combined with infernal mobs.

Please never let Nether Ores go away. It's a great mod. Even if we didn't have BoP or Natura amping the Nether, Nether Ores motivates visits to the nether in a very practical and fun way. It also is right in line with the "high risk high reward" style of farming that the nether should represent.

But also note that we've found numerous ways to avoid your aggro mechanism: auto-smelting/macerating tools being the easiest way. Tinker's construct smelting tools are terribly good for this. I dunno if you are cool with this, but it'd be funny if ores that are auto-smelted or auto-macerated (Tinker's Construct and Dartcraft, respectively) had a higher chance of chain reaction explosions. So you can pick your poison. I'd also love to have a reason to use Blast Resistant armor...

Well, it was fine with MFR's rubber trees because they have consistent spawning. But the first oak planted spawned a large oak which expanded past the scope of the harvester. >.<

There is really generator in Mekanism that uses hydrogen produced from water with energy gain? This is really silly, it is worse than Minechem (let's take atoms and slap them together). I'm even bothered with GT silliness like extra cheap electrolysing of clay, too much focus on stoichiometry without any consideration about density or state of matter. Don't focus too much on realism, it can get less believable that way.

On topic: I'm not a fan of using MFR farms for producing energy. I will use them if I need wood, crops or even ore nuggets, but nothing will go for energy production. It is just too easy and balance of MFR farms around energy usage is negligible if you use them for energy production (from my tests they are about 5 times more energy demanding than Forestry for oak logs, with a lot more apples from multifarm), getting net income of 95 % or 99 % doesn't really make a difference. I plan to make my 1.6 world completely focused on nonrenewable energy sources and exploiting the world (charcoal is ok, but only coming from naturally generated trees, etc.), because I feel that energy production is getting more and more trivialized.

Energy generation isn't the problem, energy consumption is. We don't have enough consumers of power unless someone does something just to prove they can.

The ones hanging upside down in the nether right? I got those to plant by building a netherrack (maybe any block? First one I tried) ceiling and then a one block air space with a temporary block (I used dirt) underneath and planted the saplings by aiming at the block underneath and they attached to the ceiling. Then I removed the block underneath and they grew after a bit. They don't need 2x2 saplings even though they're 2x2 trees, I ended up growing 4 trees on top of each other. Automatic harvesting of these could prove quite the challenge. The bit about using a temporary block to place the tree may have been a bug that has since been fixed.
