I'm talking about 1.5 mod stuff because that's what I'm playing now. Though its mostly messing about since I'm undecided on the mods I want to use

I reckon it's Virtual Generator. You build a big generator server and you can host several virtual generators in them. Or it could be Victual Generator, powered by food. No, wait, Lingual Generator, you create power by talking to it! These are all brilliant ideas, I can't wait to find out which is the right one!

May I recommend the MFR? Possible combined with a side of Buildcraft, a heaping helpin' of Thermal Expansion, and coat it all with a buttery layer of Modular Power Suits. :D

EDIT: edited 'cause English is difficult.

I have them all! They are delicious! They're also integral to a non-IC2 or Gregtech world. I'm using pretty much all the mods from Bagman's DIY post. I'm VERY undecided on Ars Magica, it just doesn't feel like Minecraft. Its cool though finding a village with lots of new types of villagers. I almost killed one because it looked like a witch but when it turned around it had a beard and a npc sidekick.

I've been working on a "Magical modpack for myself" I like Ars Magica so far, and really it doesn't feel any less minecrafty then IC2/TE/Buildcraft/RP2 did the first time I played them :). The biggest problem I ran into was that I was trying to go "No-Tech" and ran into the rather limited automation options. I am enjoying Metallurgy 3 and Tinkers Construct (Would like to see Metallurgy 3 integration though).

Been playing a 1.5 world for a week or so now.

The vanilla inventory changes are the best feature. Took a day or two to get used to, but crafting with it is awesome.

Hoppers are surprisingly useful. Early game you can setup a chest to dump your ores with a hopper below it connected to a pulverizer/whatever processing you want. Acts as a nice buffer that won't ever drop items. When i had a priority item i just swap it directly out in the machine and whatever i pulled i toss back in the input chest.

As others have mentioned the MFR bio-reactor and bio-generator are also very good. Technically the generator is 20% less efficient than a combustion engine using the same fuel. But you know that #1 complaint new players have trying to use MJs is having to turn on/off their engines? There is no need for on/off with MFR. The reactor shuts off when there is no where to place the biofuel. The generators don't do anything when there is no where for the energy to go. Buildcraft conduit will always accept energy, so you have to connect using TE conduit or directly to the machines to get that benefit.

Overall using a generator as your first MJ source, no worry about on/off or waste, no warm up, no water, no redstone signal needed, and no explosions. I'd pay 20% for that. With that you can have more generators than you use and they all can fill up their internal storage with biofuel + MJs and give you high peak MJ usage whenever you want.

In 1.5:
The max speed a reactor outputs a bucket every 50 seconds instead of every 5 seconds.

One reactor can supply fuel for 10 generators or 20 combustion engines.

UE+AtomicScience+Mekanism integrates into this build better than any IC2 setup ever has. I'm about to publish a video showing this. Redstone energy cells have new competition!

Dave your pack sounds VERY interesting. I've only watched 1 of your vids but I like that you're more experienced with making packs and balancing. I'm going to your thread now, I may be better off using your pack.

Thanks.

I'm going to post a config list and full modlist after I migrate the server to Biomes o Plenty 0.5.2. I suspect 0.5.1 is making my server super-unstable due to memory leaks.

I've had a ton of problems with BOP 0.5.1, most of them went away after changing to 0.5.2 update 4 (I think). I still am having a problem getting the TE sawmill recipes to work.

I saw Dw20's mod spotlight on tinker's construct, and it looks pretty good (though having an electrically powered pick seems a bit weird, but I like all the customisation you get). Also: who else will be building a sorting system with just vanilla hoppers and comparators, even though there's absolutely no need?

Oh, and I actually really like IC2 :(

You are giving me hope!
Hope is good, and if Gregorius and the Underground Biomes guys get the cobble/ore dict thing straightened out, I'll be a happy camper.

Also (If you don't mind answering), I know you've been fiddling with Metallurgy 3, how do you have the configs set on that? I was testing it out and the default ore spawn seems a little sparse. I dropped a 16x16 quarry in a test world and got 6 ores out of it, and that seemed a little low(OK it seemed *VERY* low). I am getting ores they are very sparse though. I was expecting ores everywhere with all the stuff they add, and what I ended up with was somewhat less then vanilla.

I can send you my config, but with my build I'd say we actually have TOO MUCH iron. The thing is, the default settings of 0-128 means that ore can fail to spawn.[DOUBLEPOST=1367520411][/DOUBLEPOST]

I just wanna add that TE Engines have always shut themselves off before blowing up my buildcraft power pipes. I've been very happy with that change; because tbh I really was starting to miss the blue lasers.
