Indeed, MJ changes seem to be splitting the modding scene. It may or may not be a good thing. Time will tell.

If we can store RF, and then convert RF into MJ, then that is in effect storing MJ. You just won't be able to store MJ directly. I've never needed all the power that a single boiler could output, so from my perspective, I doubt I'd miss using MJ engines. I guess people more people will store steam in tanks to act as a buffer now.
i dont think that such split, which leads to creation of new power systems can be a good thing.

depending on how RF(what it stands for again?) behaves, it might be easier to just burn fuels directly in different types of engines to produce different types of power at once.

they don't. Aiden isn't supporting MJ anymore
As of build 207 for 1.6.2, Mekanism still supports MJ. I'm currently using universal cable for my entire base, including feeding Forestry machines.

Having said that, Aiden did state he was going to remove MJ support at some time, and I would hope that he would move to supporting RF (Redstone Flux) that CoFH are coming up with. If so, I'll just drop BC entirely, because at that point there will really be no point in having it any further..

at least it will stop people complaining about quarries being too cheap

Actually, according to Direwolf's latest FC2 video, you can store MJ in Golden Energy pipes, by making loops. If power is cut off it will then eat up that power, until power is restored or it's empty.

So would you also cut Forestry and Railcraft? Or would you just rely on power converters to use them?

Even if someone removed the Quarry, Filler, Pump, Refinery, Oil, Fuel, Engines, Power, I would still use BuildCraft for the item transportation pipes, the gates and the wires. Those has for me been the primary reason to play with technical mods at all. All other mods are simply content so that the pipes actually have something to transport. :D

When vanilla Minecraft added Hoppers I actually returned to normal Minecraft for a while because of it. The fun challenges lies in the engineering of automated systems. Not having them pre built by a machine in some mod.

if he gets rid of buildcraft, there will be no quarries in his pack, so no one can complain about the cost of quarries in his pack because they dont exist..
i see. but i still dont see a reason to get rid of BC. if there were mods that fill all niches BC does, then maybe.

I completely agree. I've started playing 1.6 and can't wait to test out the new pipes :D

If that wasn't implemented as feature of golden pipes and instead is an in-game 'hack' that happens to work because of the internal golden pipe mechanics, I could see that being resource intensive and lag causing if done on a wide scale by lots of players on a server. Just a guess based on an 'if' I have not verified, so value accordingly.

People, despite the quibbles about energy systems and other stuff, are we forgetting the most important thing in this thread?

Thermal Expansion IS being updated!

Beyond that, KL is making a great effort to make his code useful enough to be passed on to a trusted few who will keep the mod going hopefully we'll past 1.7.

Isn't that enough to be grateful for? I honestly don't care if KL told use we had to us diced lions to power his machines, I'd do it because I really like his mod.

Hey, i would like a power system using diced lions.
Would be fun, breed the lions then chop them up and put it in a generator.
Sounds like MFR xD

I'd be lion if I said I didn't like the image. Doubt it'll happen though, sorry, no matter how much pride I put into the mod. (Sorry, that was horrible.)

I've been reading through this thread, and I didn't see anything about power transmission in 1.6 except for the statement that conduits would not be implemented... With the power system changes, have you changed your mind on this?

If I simply missed the post, I apologize :D

Edit: Derp. Found it:
If I release a 1.6.x branch with Conduits and Fluiducts, that creates an awkward situation where I'm not allowed to fully revamp them until 1.7. I don't want that - it's much more preferable to release without and then convert back. But again, if we end up with a new power system, it's not really an option, eh? ;)

Dartcraft. Actually, I've been tempted to dump Forestry for a while now, certainly since the troll-bee nerf from 1.6. RC can be ran off of Dartcraft, but once I get a boiler up, it'll provide all kinds of power, both with the turbines and with the commercial steam engines.

Will there be a path to/from EU or does that still have problems similar to MJ? I'm just hoping I can keep my Steam Boilers around even if I have to use a Turbine in addition..
