Anyone know how I can get steel for TE machines in FTB:Horizons? I tried using the Rotary Craft blast furnace and got HLSA steel which isn't compliant. Can someone help me out here?

Metallurgy's manganese + iron = steel. You can combine one manganese and one iron dust to make one steel dust. Or you can use a smeltery from Tinker's construct.

The more important question is : Since when did Thermal expansion require steel? Or are you referring to something else with TE?

I don't know why it requires steel it just says it does in NEI with this pack. Thanks for the help.

Try it with iron first, it might just be a NEI problem. I know I have had a few in Resonant rise (iron helmets/=sticks)

or a serious case of an id conflict... because I know TE in its vanilla state never had steel... nor even a use for it

You should be able to get steel by resmelting ore in a furnace.

And yes its intentional to keep it from being too cheap compared to roatary craft.

It's not a bug or a conflict, it's in the configs
B:MachineFrame.UseSteel=true

What mod adds that? Cause that pretty much breaks every other mod that adds steel...

I figured as much but I didn't want to mess with any configs. I like playing the pack the way it was put together. I did a lot of customizing of GregTech's config in Ultimate and it really changed the game.

EDIT: You've got to be kidding me... It's so simple. Just smelt iron ingots and get steel. I guess that replaces refined iron without IC2. Seems a little easy after all I went through. I think the harder way may be more balanced.

While it makes the machine frame *slightly* more difficult early-game, it may trivialize other mod's steel.

*But*, as long as RotaryCraft HLSA steel != TE steel, it's all good in that modpack. There is no Railcraft or Traincraft in Horizons, so no Railcraft or Traincraft steel.

Wow, that makes things very easy. In my Omega Dawn pack I'm also using the TE steel option (virtually all machines then require steel to craft in the pack) but with the mods forces you to either get a railcraft blast furnace (and a trip to the Nether is extremely difficult) or a smeltery for chainmail, or a bit of dungeon loot.

I think the only option for non HLSA steel should be via the smeltery. That being said you'd be entirely dependent on Manganese to get it which wouldn't be very fun.
