Someone's got their panties in a bunch. Nobody's making demands.

That said, if you're collecting donations and monetizing your mod through AdFly, there are expectations.

(Which is probably why King Lemming doesn't take donations, despite my attempts to give him money)

It's those exact donations that got RP2 out for the packs we are playing on right now. They are not an eternal debt once you donate. In fact the reason they are donations (and are you seriously going to complain about adFly?) is because you choose to SUPPORT someone for their work. If your donation was a bribe to get them to continue their work you should make that clear to them or have it be your own demands in a void.

I think a lot of people are kicking and screaming about a mod as if they have a right to it. Whether you donated or not, you do not have any rights to force any moddev to update the mod for you. If they don't want to anymore (theoretically) that's their choice. If they are too busy right now, that's life. If you can't stand waiting for elo, why don't you just implement her ideas differently? You are all such amazingly talented people that feel slighted by waiting 5 seconds of adfly, afterall.

Not being diplomatic, I'll just be blunt.

Eloraam worked hard for about 7 months after 1.3 caused some MAJOR problems within RP2 right down to the deepest levels of the mod. Lest it be ignored and glossed over, she publicly stated a boost of donations allowed her to take some UNPAID LEAVE from her job to finish up RP2 a couple days before CHRISTMAS. Not only has Elo delivered a wonderfully deep and useful mod with widely varying flavors of complexity, she pulled off things like an implementation of FORTH, the mighty frames that move blocks en masse, and a multitude of other wildly complex things few members of the community are even scratching the true surface of for all the potential. Of all the mods out there, RP2 has in many ways reached the farthest, shot the highest, with likely one of the BEST records for reasonably stable releases. Also don't forget 1.5 is going to likely require a rather ludicrous amount of work because of fundamental changes that Minecraft will undergo and it WILL affect ALL mods in some way. I'm just hoping Elo does not have to endure a year of work just to get the current version functioning to her excellent standards. Take a minute and consider every block, item, and tool in RP2 took hours, days, even perhaps months each of dedicated effort pulled out of spare time. And all of it out of passion alone.

If Elo felt done with RP2 (and there is still a LOT of things yet hinted towards), it wouldn't be terrible and the community would deal with it and find other ways of playing. It is a great mod to have but not the only option. Perhaps Elo had work issues keeping her occupied of late and a hobby had to take a back seat. Maybe, gods forbid, a family emergency or health problem. I don't care even if it was a very well deserved vacation from Minecraft and modding to recharge. Nobody has any right whatsoever to claim Elo owes them something if for no other reason than all the quality goodies and fun we've all had using RP2 thus far. It's her personal project and she knows people love the mod but we the fans cannot expect anything more than what she feels is right for her work. It's a work of art she shares by choice with the world. She could keep all the fun to herself and nobody could do jack, nor would anyone have any right to. Instead, she's helped so many of us have tons of fun.

Reclusive or not, Eloraam deserves mountains of respect. Don't like her not meeting your childish demands for immediate action and details, stop using Red Power 2 and shut your bloody hole. No mod dev works for you.

The only thing I'd disagree with is that it wouldn't be terrible if Elo felt done with RP2 :D It would definitely be terrible, amazing mod, I don't think I would ever want a pack without it.

Internet Tip: No amount of whiteknighting, rational explanation, or belittlement will ever stop anyone from venting frustration. In fact, it's more likely to have the opposite effect.

venting frustration is not equal to acting entitled. You can be upset and impatient all you like, it's the people EXPECTING eloraam to work for them, for free, that are causing the controversy

Well the entire thread was sort of created for this, so it would stop derailing so many other threads, Poppycocks.
Ah, that makes sense. It certainly worked out. It's one way to do it, of course.

The other method is the FlowerChild way and damn, do I wish he was a mod here. Heh. He'd just barge in, call everything its true name, say that we don't want none of that, hand out a few warns and bans and locked the whole thing. Trust me, a moderator like that would stop any talk about "balance", "opness", "morals", "gtech", "nerfing" or "elo", or any other topic on which everyone seems to develop a strong and "obviously true" opinion right and proper.

But anyway, since this thread is, as you have revealed, about expressing opinions. I'll share mine: This whole issue is way more complicated than can be expressed in a single post, or understood by any one non-involved person. The selfless stance is the "right" one, but self-righteousness makes my skin crawl and the posts smells of ego masturbation. The other opinion has a bit of a point, people do invest a lot of time into worlds dependent on the modders work. But it's still just self-centered douchebaggery.

That's why I wish this discussion just wouldn't take place, there's just no winner, and nothing of worth is said, as neither side has anything of relevance to add. The modders know what impact they have, and talking about morals online is like preaching doomsday on the street. It's all just "taking part in the special Olympics", if you know what I mean.

Personally, I'm happy to wait for RP updated. I don't use it as much as I could, have little use for over engineered devices, and don't use RP for sorting anyway. Many of the things RP2 does are covered in other mods, often doing it better. The one thing that isn't covered by other mods is Frames. And personally? I don't use them much, if at all.
I build simple bases, and if I want tons of "resources", I can just mine by hand. Sure, it's slower, but I can choose what I want to gather. I can gather only coal, or gather just iron, or maybe fill 30 bags with cobblestone. In the end, what I build is ultimately mine. But I build it with mods other people have poured their blood sweat and tears into. I don't feel it's right to demand anything of them, but I sometimes have to make my opinion known. That being said, I hope in the next RP2 update, either the ID auto assigning is removed, or fixed.

You need to recognize that not everybody has your history with the mod. I've never used RP before 1.4.6, and I've found a crash prone mod that lags tremendously and a developer so far out of contact that there isn't even a reliable path for bug reports.

Since the mod is theoretically to build a customer base for a future game, or so I've heard, she's going about it the wrong way.

Think we would all like to see her in the community more.. But some people just are shy, in real life... And internet.. Who knows the reasons.. But its always been this way.. Maybe when the mod first came out she was pretty active... But something has happened since that time to change everything.. Really only she knows what that could be.

It might sound silly.. But since I don't think I ever heard her talk, speak, or seen pictures... Some times my silly goofy side thinks.. Is she really even a girl.. LOL.. I know totally dumb.. But I was not around in the old days so I have no idea.

I know I have heard her voice somewhere, maybe in one of Direwolf's videos, but I can attest she is a girl. (She was talking about "How she coded redpower" so I know it was her)

So much butthurt. So much.

If it is causing an issue for now, ban people from using the mod - or see if you can find a fix for the issues that are happening. If you are a server admin, theoretically you are trying to build a customer base for a future game so ensure your system has the capabilites to handle and anything that is not working in a Work In Progress modpack, either ban or remove completely.

You need to recognise that research is something you should be doing yourself instead of getting snarky at other people who are providing you with helpful information.

There is no butthurt from me. Barring an update, I will be disabling redpower at my next worldgen which will be when Ultimate is released.

This makes redpower unique in the FTB mod lineup.

This comment doesn't even make sense. The crash bugs and lag problems are inherent to the mod. There is no amount of "research" that will cure the problems, short of disabling both microblocks and machines.

You know, If you all donated, Elo would be able to take a day or two off work for the mod.

She's done it before.

Well, she could release the mod to somebody else and not be worried again in her life with the mod.

maybe she doesn't want others to change her mod?

There is nothing stopping anyone making mods that cover what RP2 does if it were to be absent in future updates. Well, except themselves.

I will never donate money to a closed source project. Period. End Stop.
Tiz your way of things i guess.

I know how dealing with IRL shit can be.
Add ontop having to work, yeah, Maybe you could chip in so she actually has free time to update the mod. And can take a day off.

Considering the amount of people who use the mod, i don't think it's to much trouble for everyone to chip in a buck.

From http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/365357-125-eloraams-mods-redpower-2-prerelease-5b2/

Eloraam:
I was originally planning to just merge it back into buildcraft. After making it a standalone, I have to say that I'm really not sure, but I think it's likely that I'll make it open source. I like open source. I did just start modding yesterday though, so I'm still doing things like figuring out how to bundle mods, how to upload, getting accounts set up, etc.

And I'm curious to see your ideas. I have a few more pipe mods in mind myself. Perhaps we could even collab on a bundle at some point.
