Why shouldn't hoppers and horses have been added? I'm legitimately curious about your reasoning here
the time could have been better spent fixing the bugs and the glitches and the downright broken bits instead of adding something new that will only have to be fixed in the future anyway.

I would rather a fun game that has bugs instead of a well polished game that doesn't have that many features. Also they have done a TON of bugfixes in the last two updates

there are plenty of features, and a fuckton of features if you're into modded MC, which, as you're on the FTB forums I assume you are.
Maybe I'm just biased as I don't find vanilla fun at all anymore... but meh.

the best way the time could be spent is by actually changing minecraft as a whole. recoding it and leaving the important hooks for modders. why? cause minecraft is so damn inefficient and slow. in its vanilla state its already too large for one core and then adding mods just makes it impossible for servers. yes this update would ruin mods for a bit but in the long run it is so worth it. right now that and modding api which will never get made are the best things mojang can bring to the table.

Lighting is basically fixed and it runs some much smoother. Go play 1.5.1.

Minecraft is in serious need of more 'stuff'. Let Jeb and Dinnerbone do what they want. If they want mod like items into MC let them.

I still play vanilla. Still though, hoppers were amazing for advanced redstone stuff (watch ethos LP or sethblings videos) and horses will be a fun new type of transportation, And most of the FTB mods are focused on tech stuff, not that I dont like tech but more "fun" features would be cool

Great, you like vanilla, that doesn't change the fact that they should fix the broken shit before adding more stuff. That's just a logical thing to do.

From playing MC there doesn't seem to be any major bugs that detract from enjoying the game.

What is broken?
Mostly stuff under the hood. Why is optifine able to drastically improve your fps? Why was CPW able to implement something in forge that changed the way MC sent textures to and from the driver that gave him 500+ FPS? This is all stuff that standard vanilla MC should have, and it doesn't. Lighting fixed in 1.5? I'll hedge my bets on it being more smoke up the chimney. They said it was fixed in 1.2.5, and they said they fixed it in 1.3, and they said they fixed it in 1.4. They didn't. What makes you so eager to believe them now?

they also removed herobrine. Which I was pretty happy about. Yeah I suppose making it faster would be nicer, I don't have framerate issues with MC, fraps on the other hand...

How has this thread not been locked yet? It's basically just 23 pages of people insulting other people or arguing about the terminology used to insult people. Little bits and pieces were interesting (i.e. King Lemming's thing about open source), but in general this thread seems to be bringing out the worst in people.

I personally think that Mojang should just stop updating. I do appreciate that they're maintaining their game rather than saying "most people who will buy the game already have, we got the money so just forget it" like most publishers would. But let's face the truth:
  • No matter how many new items Mojang adds, they'll still just be playing catch-up to what mods have to offer.
  • While horses and hoppers are fine, adding more magic or more tech will interfere with the way some people want to play (if I want a pure medieval feel, I don't want vanilla adding pipes and quarries).
  • Let's face it, minecraft isn't a great game without mods. It's fun for a while, but I think mods play a huge role in keeping MC going. And they can't (or won't) update without breaking every mod and forcing mod authors to do significant code rewrites. Case in point, it's nice to have the new redstone system in 1.5.1, but that makes RP2 and any other redstone-heavy mod have to do a bunch of re-coding, which leads to issues with updates, which leads to this thread.
  • Most people are fine with MC the way it is. I don't know anyone who says "I would love to play MC, but I just can't bring myself to enjoy it until they add horses." The few people who may think that way already have Mo Creatures or Simply Horses.
I'd much rather see Mojang get started on Minecraft 2. They trolled us for April Fools, but let's be honest here. If they spent the time to truly make a Minecraft 2, a new game from the ground up with more options, much better optimization (and preferably not Java), better mod support, better graphics, and a more lively world (physics engine, anyone?), I think a lot of people would gladly pay another $30 for it, especially if it used the model that makes regular MC so successful (you can play for free, it's just a "premium" account, so people who don't usually buy a lot of games can get into it, then decide to pay).

It's win-win. We get a better game, they get more money. Let's be honest MC isn't going to last forever in its current state. FTB Ultimate pretty much pushes it to the limit in terms of how much you can add before the engine just can't handle it anymore.

because the moderators respect our opinions and aren't out to lock anything that gets a little heated without good reason.

Yea, the clouds only go in one way too.
MADNESS!
People say the oceans aren't nearly deep enough, yet they're obnoxiously large. The world itself should be taller, like they did in TFC.
I'm not much of a BTW fan, but BTW and TFC are two mods that do try to fix vanilla, and do a pretty good job of it. The latter does make it very hard, but that's the way he decided to do it. Optifine should not be necessary for me to run minecraft. That's dumb. This modder, who does this as a hobby is doing things better than the makers of a game who's job is to make the game? Don't think these people aren't making millions and have enough money to work on BOTH new content and old bug fixes.

I can respect opinions, I just couldn't help noticing that several posters who I normally find quite enjoyable to read were getting more and more boisterous and less and less insightful. Perhaps I'm just disappointed that this thread doesn't live up to what I know this community is capable of in terms of civil discussion.
