1. I will be adding a visual notification. Just not sure what is within my capabilities
2. That would just involve changing the Lang files. So it could be possible.
3. Hahahahahahahahahahahaha no. I'm still a noob to modding xD

I have other plans. This was just an initial feature as it was quite easy to learn and make.

now feel free to ignore me, but I thought of some more ideas for the mod... sorry once again :(

how about adding some more mechanics to the sleep mechanic.
for example, you won't be able to sleep in total darkness, you need atleast a low light level before you can fall asleep, because if you think about it... if you're in a world that's filled with monsters, would you be able to sleep in complete darkness?

with that, you also won't be able to sleep outside during rain. if it rains you need to find a dry spot for your bed before you can fall asleep.

you also won't be able to fall asleep if you're near things that make alot of noise, so you can't place your bed right next to machines or animals, because the noise would keep you awake.

another thing, if you sleep while it's raining, you might wake up in the middle of the night if there's thunder, and you won't be able to fall back to sleep before the thunderstorm is over

sleeping will also become something that can be both a blessing and a curse. if you try to sleep at like 2AM in the morning, you'll wake up with a small debuff, where every hour you go to bed later the debuffs will become worse. BUT if you go to bed early, and perhaps if you just drank some milk and ate a cookie, you could wake up with some positive buffs. this could be really helpful for people playing ultra hardcore and need a way to regenerate their health.

there would be some ways to improve your sleeping, but there could also be consequences if you try to sleep in a bad way.

A while back I remember someone talking about a mod that added blocks/items you can name and texture for your own use in crafting or something that were useless by default but you could do whatever you want with them, does anyone remember the name of that mod? If no one remembers then I obviously dreamed of that or something.

All of it depends on whether I can get into the bed sleeping code. Turns out the only way I can do it is with an Access Transformer/Reflection and I don't know how to do that, but it is quite hacky.

Another option would be to overwrite the bed with my own bed, but I don't want to do that either. I could also just rewrite the whole bed code and run it afterwards and "simulate sleeping" although that would be a buggy field of mess so I have no clue how to do that. Anyways, if I ever manage to change the sleeping code via my mod, be it reflection or not, I will keep these in mind.

I can however allow the buffs thing since all that requires is a successful sleep and getting the time when you did sleep. So I might look into that. Although, it might require me to change what my mod is about :p

All this is kind of good. But it's kinda relative. I can sleep through any thunder storm. So it would require a resistance to effect mechanic.
Or better yet might I suggest adding things to counter the negative things. Like ear plugs or head phones to counter anything sound related. Eye mask that lets you sleep at anytime.
A pop up tent for outside sleeping.
Better/tiered beads to add buffs or counter debuffs. Ranging from futons to water beds to canopy beds to couches.
The first beds could be made of sticks or leaves. And have debuffs.
With couches and normal beads being the neutral no change one.
And the best ones adding buffs.

Even several types of pajamas for other effects.

There is much that could be done with the sleep mechanic.

I should also mention there is a suggest mods for creation section somewhere. But I don't think anyone reads it. I can only imagine the... interesting ideas it gets.

Where else?
I made a mod.
Mod Developer: Me.
Mod Name: The Void.
Link: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/2740685-1710the-void-version-172-220-beta/
From MCF post:
The void is a mysterious place filled with all kinds of magic. There is ancient lore left, and even some mythology. There is more out there then just the inhabitable void under the overworld. There is an entire world of mysteries to be discovered.
This is my first released mod, and it is about doing magic related to the void, using knowledge given to you by ancient civilizations that have since died out.
took a look, seems like quite a nice mod, stick with it, and keep working and it may be a major mod someday! (textures are a bit wierd imo)

Seems interesting. Although the dimension name "NullVoid" is super redundant...

That isn't "creation" because the mod already exists. Also, I'm pretty sure Vike and Yusunoha, who have been here for ages, know about that thread...

Vikesteps mod is NearbyMobFinder. I'm sorry if I failed to see how suggestions about modifying the sleep mechanic has anything to do with that. In fact it sounds like entirely different mods. As if Yusunoha was describing an entirely separate mod. So yah I suggested that it should go somewhere else. And it probably should. If not the suggest a mod thread then that mods specific thread.

The relevance is it detects nearby monsters when you attempt to sleep and there's the message about "You cannot sleep now, there are monsters nearby."

Sleep has everything to do with this mod as its only function so far is to do something when you try to sleep

The mod only reveals some internal data. A fraction of the data found in most map mods. And a far cry from a mod that actually changes anything. As the mod author clearly states it's his first attempt.
All this other stuff might be a good idea. But it is like asking a texture pack maker to code a new item. Completely separate things. Worlds apart from one another.

ok, I will leave it at this. I want this mod to be client side only, so if it changes how it works serverside, then it won't get in. Things that might change how stuff works serverside is changing how beds/sleeping works. All I really wanted to do was the current feature and maybe from now on improve it so that it can display the nearby mobs further.

However, NJM's view that he shouldn't submit those ideas is a bit farfetch'd given that this mod does focus around the element of sleeping and he was only trying to be helpful.

sorry for going all crazy with ideas, feel free to ignore them if you don't find them do-able, related to the mod or interesting enough :(
sometimes I just go completely crazy with certain vanilla mechanics that don't really seem right...
for example all zombies dropping carrots and potatoes... I could understand a villager zombie dropping them, but all zombies? and how baby zombies don't catch fire in the sun... well, I could write a whole list of things that could be changed with vanilla minecraft :p

I like thos ideas, though I tried to suggest ideas that wouldn't require adding any new items or blocks to the mod to keep the mod a simple drag and drop into a modpack...
