Alright guys, new poster, sorry for broken rules and whatnot. Just tell me.

I've set up a nice computer room in my (not so) evil overlord tower base. Everything runs smoothly, I can control all my entry and exit points, bridges, power, self destruct, etc. What I want to know is if there is a way to tell how much power I have/am using via a display of some sort. Even just lamps lighting up under signs or something.

I have a switch that throws the power plant into high production mode, but I want an indicator that tells me if I need to. Without checking production. Is it possible?

First, what kind of power?
Second, what mod pack?

Because there are ways to detect full/empty energy cells, as well as full/empty batbox/mfe/mfsu.

For the energy cells, buildcraft gates are your friends, for IC2, they can act differently regarding redstone, change the mode via the redstone dust button.

EDIT: As far as I know, you didn't break rules, but your signature does hurt my eyes.

Yeah, seriously. That signature is ultra-annoying. Please remove it.

As for monitoring your power usage, I think MiscPeripherals adds the things you're looking for. Can't tell you how they work though because I don't use ComputerCraft or its addons myself.

I had a bunny moving across my signiture for easter and even that was slightly brushing against the limit of what was acceptable.

Yeah, Lambert, that's like worse than killing children. I'm completely serious. I'm being serious not sarcastic!

Great signature, you should keep it! :)

...

More importantly, self destruct?!?!?!? OMG, I'd so totally accidentally blow up my base if I had one of those.

Sorry about the sig guys, the mods on my old animation forums had worse, if you'd believe it. I'll get rid of it.

I'm using the Ultimate pack.

Uh, about power, mostly EU but I have a bit of MJ that is going through too so it would be nice to know both.

For right now, I'll look through the miscperipherials stuff, and at gates.

Is it possible to set up a bunch of batboxes or something that drain one at a time, before switching? I bet there is. If not, I guess I'll just have to hope that the power level thing works with comparitors. Signal length and all that come the 1.5 update.

Oh, and my stupid (but evil!) self destruct button is behind glass that I need to break, so I just need to make sure no wires are crossed. Or start using wireless redstone more. Yeah...just sayin'.

Wireless Redstone sounds great for a self destruct button until someone starts using that frequency with a RP2 timer or something. I actually have an idea and working code for a CC setup that scans every wireless frequency and waits 1 minute per frequency. If it becomes active at any point in that one minute its marked as active and printed to a monitor.

Very evil to use on populated servers. With little modding I could have another computer start randomly pulsing any frequencies found to be active.

That's why, when I need to do something like that, I have it activate when the wireless signal is OFF. Other people can only turn the signal on a frequency on, right? So the self destruct, lower forcefield, etc. can only be activated from the controls where you originally placed the transmitter.

For an analog power meter you can string your batt boxes ( I use mfsu's) one feeding into the next. I have the mfsu set to emit a Redstone signal when full. Attach a lamp and you have a basic power meter.

True, that's a new feature compared to the last time I really used wireless redstone, and I'm not sure how it works.

wireless sniffer, it shows you any frequencies that are in use. On the frequencies over 1000 you can click the box and make it a private frequency

Yeah, I looked into it a bit. So, if I understand correctly, all you have to do is click 4000 boxes and then nobody else can use a private frequency? :p

Power meter will have to do. I guess I could always automate the high power mode if I'm doing it that way too. When the power drops below a certain level or something.

Oh, and if we're still talking about my self destruct, I've got it on a long (2 minute) timer so that I have tons of howler alarms and red flashing lights before it goes off. I might put a countdown display somewhere later.

Thanks for the help guys, and sorry for the bump.

Glad to hear you got a plan. Last question about your self destruct, is it accident proof? I assume it uses explosives, which could be triggered by a person lighting off TNT because its funny or a random creeper spawn. Or a Plasma Cannon shot from the Modular Power Tool.

I do like this idea I've used to before not so much as a power gauge but as a turn off my genarators.

But still a really basic wait to get a rough idea of stored power levels.
