Lightning rod in a MystCraft charged age, anyone, anyone?
Too laggy. They're crazy laggy.
I could have swore those didn't work like that.
...It has been a long time since I tested this, though.

Assuming I can get more then 1 frame per three seconds sometime soon, I'll have to test this. Maybe I'll even be able to turn the render distance beyond tiny, turn animations back on, enable the small visual things again, and generally be able to play the bloody game again. I don't know what's changed, but I get horrible lag with the Ultimate back, and Direwolf20's pack, and even my custom built pack.
And I still haven't found out what's causing it.

Damn! Are you playing on a 386? That sounds pretty bad. Though to be fair, my machine is lagging pretty hard on the Ultimate pack. I really need to comb through and find all the mods that I will never use (BiblioCraft) and remove them to cut down on unnecessary crap, see if that boosts performance. I already ditched the voxel stuff and put Rei's minimap back in. Some of these new mods probably deserve a chance at least before I ditch them. I might find I don't know how I ever lived with out them.

Not sure what you mean by on a 386, but the game used to be very easy to play without world sucking lag. Might have been Forge updates, might have been mod updates. But I'm positive it's time to get a new computer anyway.
'Course, that's easier said then done when you are unemployed. I should be able to browbeat some more FPS out of my game somehow. I've always found a way.
Whether or not it's a change I can accept, we'll have to see.
EDIT: Also I can't for the life of me remember what the ExtraBiomesXL biome I'm looking for is called. It's the only place to find Red Rock, and I plan on finding a spot a building a home on a hill near a village, preferably with a villager selling Symbols. But any village on a red rock mountain would be fine.

Mountain Ridge, per http://feed-the-beast.wikia.com/wiki/Red_Rock and my experience with that lovely biome.

Many thanks. I love that Biome. Yeah, you're super high up in the world(got some ups and downs to building so high), but it rarely rains. And one can see for quite some distance from a good house(with high render distance), and I plan to make a good house. For now, I'm building a shack in a savanna. I tell ya, only two things missing from that shack; elephants roaming the land outside, and a elephant gun in my hands.
Personally any decently powerful longarm would suit me just fine for now. The trick is to find one I like, which I have yet to do.
...Likely going to have to use Flans Mod again just for a decent rifle.

I believe you mean Eternal Storm ... I read somewhere the Charged symbol doesnt create the right conditions for generating a Lightning Rod strike, as dumb as that sounds.

Hi KD, I've seen you mention this before. Is this based on your experience or from viewing GT's code?

I setup a Lightning Rod in a Mystcraft age where i do my creative builds and still had my original block setup in the Overworld. Didnt notice any difference in FPS from none to two (and I checked because of your earlier comment)

On topic, the Eternal Storm world was generating 5,000 EU/t worth of UUM, often striking before the MatterFab had chewed thru the original 25M, so perhaps 4 EV transformers around a Lightning Rod would provide even more EU/t (not that the MF is much of a bottleneck)

Yes. He posted the code in his thread. They iterate across the length of the lightning rod on updates during thunderstorms. If you build many lightning rods you will be sad. The cost is in your server's tickrate. Building several of them will add up.

Hehehe. I think the 386 was the next PC (processor) I had after my Com64. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_80386

Dam. Kids just don't appreciate all the power they have at their fingertips.
I wanna be around a 100 yrs from now just to see what they are building next.

my first computer was a commandor 64 my first dos pc was an 8088. I recall the days when adding memory was done 1 chip at a time instead of whole sticks and before we had GUI windows and stuff.Tape drive for storage yeah had one that used audio tapes. Remember having to type in line after line of code just to do anything on my c64.

Now my phone is hundreds of times more advanced.

True that.
I had my old man reading out lines of code to me while I typed it into my Com64. Pages and pages of it. 10,20....6000 lmao.
EDIT: I still have a Set of floppies for dos 6.0 and win3.1

I'd say the most powerful single block source that can be found (in FTB ultimate) is the nether uranium ore block.

after smelting it in the induction smelter together with rich slag, it gives 3 regular uranium ore blocks, this in the grinder give 1,5 heaps of plutonium and 6 heaps of uranium dust. those 6 heaps uranium dust can be processed to 48 near depleted uranium cells, which can be breeded to 48 reenriched cells. after centrifuging those, you get 3 near depleted cells (reenriched to uranium cells), 9 plutonium cells and 36 thorium cells.
together with that 1,5 plutonium cells from the grinding process, that's 10,5 pu-cells, 3 uranium cells and 36 thorium cells.

and a really good reactor setup can turn that amount into at least 1 billion EU.

Can't you throw the nether Urnaium ore block directly into the industrial grinder? Or does that not produce as much?

smelting = 1 uranium ore block = 2 uranium dust + 2 small heaps of plutonium dust (in the grinder)
macerator = 4 uranium dust
pulverizer = 4 uranium dust + 10% chance for plutonium dust
grinder = 4 uranium dust + 2 small heaps of plutonium dust
induction smelter = 2 uranium ore block
induction smelter + rich slag 3 uranium ore block

but I don't know if nether uranium ore can be mined with the fortune pick axe + silktouch... if this is possible, it gives even twice the amount of energy...

EDIT: and funnily, the induction smelter gives xycrafts aluminum ore a reason for existence. smelting that stuff with sand gives a 10% chance for rich slag. and it gives nice torches :)

All nether ores are mined as blocks automatically, there's no need for silk touch.
Though, they also have a few dangers associated with them. I won't spoil what those are, though. :p

but what's with fortune? doubling the piece of ore in the first place is a nice extra...

normal uranium can't be mined with fortune pickaxe.

and I know what nether ores are doing... although it has been nerved compared to what I knew from tekkit. or is there something special with nether uranium?

although it's a bit hard to see wether I have nether gold ore or sphallerite in front of me... or was it pyrite?

I highly doubt nether ores are affected by fortune, and pyrite IRL is fool's gold. Which is why it now look like gold. :p

Most powerful energy source you can only get by creatively cheating in a MFFS Admin Card, which gives you infinite Force Energy that you can convert into EU using the MFFS block i can't remember the name of. It runs at 2000+ EU/t too.

Oh, you're not cheating? Anything that has been mentioned in this thread. For the production of Biomass/Biofuel, the best source is still Saplings, and the best source of Saplings, not surprisingly, doesn't come from Forestry. It's a hard tie between Steve's Cart with Apple Oaks and ComputerCraft turtles chopping down Fir Wood.

ComputerCraft: + You get more saplings (If you set it up right)
+ Virtually no resources spent
+ Can be made Self Sustaining.
+ Consumes less bonemeal per wood/sapling

- Doesn't play well with chunk errors, unloaded chunks, etc...
- Only gives you wood and saplings

Steve's Cart: + Apples (Can be made into Apple Juice, which gives better rates to Fermenters & Carpenters)
+ Plays well with unloaded chunks and chunk errors. It simply resets and continues to run, virtually unbreakable.
+ Can be made self sustaining, but needs a Skeleton Spawner.

- Costs a fair amount of resources.
- The actual crafting takes a while. Close to one hour or more depending on your setup.
- Consumes more bonemeal per wood/sapling
- Doesn't accept Sulfur Goo as a fertilizing agent.

These are the two most efficient ways of producing saplings for fermenters to make into biomass/biofuel. I summarized the advantages and disadvantages i perceive, and i have to say, if you have the resources, i'd rather go for the Steve's Cart farm and not the CC farm. Simply because resetting the turtle after a server crash, chunk unloading, or other reason, can get really tiresome. The apples have a lot of uses, too. You can make short mead, you can use them as a liquid for the carpenter and fermenter, increasing their efficiency, and you can eat them. That being said, the ability to make a Sulfur Goo farm to supply your bonemeal is a rather nice addition. It's really easy to come by if you're quarrying near Extreme biomes, and can be smelted from gunpowder, too.

Biofuel can go into producing both MJ and EU now, so there's absolutely no need of setting up any other infrasctructure after you get into this point. Except if you want to.

FUN, but ineffective ways of generating energy would be...

MJ:

Blutricity Engines! Make a bunch of windmills around your base and set up a nice atmosphere. Really cool looking.

Set up a goal for yourself! "I'm going to generate 100MJ/t using ONLY Redstone Engines!!!"

EU:
MINE ALL THE TIN! Watermill energy! OVER NINE THOUSAND WATERMILLS!

Skybase, Storm Age + Windmills (Might work out really well, actually.)

Screw Compact Solars! OVER 9000 SOLAR PANELS!
