Hi.

Im hosting a MONSTER server but iam tempted to start a Modsauce server.
I like machinery, automation and adventure. So how does modsauce hold up against Monster? If I make the switch to modsauce what will I be missing out on? On the other hand what does Modsauce have in store for us?

What would you guys choose?

Well I'd choose Modsauce since I stopped playing 1.6 months ago, but that's my personal preference.

Modsauce obv is 1.7 therefore it has updated mods most of which will have new features. Nearly all 1.6 mods are feature frozen so aren't updated anymore.

But 1.7 comes with vanilla pitfalls, namely very bad chunk loading, so you'll need a beef of a server or a minimal number of players. This may not be too bad though since Blood looks like he's continuing Cauldron support for 1.7 (which is an absolutely necessity for 1.7 public servers).

The chunk loading is mostly fixed by installing fast craft. Everything you have said however, I agree with.

Yeah Fastcraft i've tried on a couple of occasions and had nothing but problems with it. First attempt (long way back) caused nothing but crashes (6 times in 1 hr) made me remove it. Then I tried it on a custom mod pack I threw together which my daughter and I play and it completely broke the "Minecraft comes Alive" mod (renamed all the villagers) and broke all the chat options. So it got removed again, luckily MCA mod came back up unbroken. So whilst it might improve your gameplay it's doing a lot more than it lets on.

Modsauce still seems a bit buggy. I can run it for random amounts of time and then crash for no reason, then restart and run it without a glitch. Or sometimes run without a crash at all. I hate unpredictable behavior in software. I have yet to have a crash while running FtB packs but I may just be lucky.

If I were you I'd run a test, either stand alone or on a server, to see if it runs stable enough for you.

FTB packs are also tested vigorously and profiled by the FTB team. Modsauce was literally just a bunch of mods thrown together and play tested. A lot of the packs on the ATLauncher are like that unfortunately. :/

Modsauce have a single individual working on it and still as a few bugs... But IMHO, still more fun then monster!

If you can have an admin or someone to restart the server almost 24/7, I woild say go with modsauce. If not, you might have your server down on avg 3-4 hrs a day but still will be fun :p

FTB Unstable, lol.

I know it's in testing, but... Yeah.

I'd stick with packs that work and are tested and stuff (#FTB), so Unstable or Monster.

Well 1.7 makes it so easy to just throw mods into the game without a thought, thats exactly what I did and played around in creative for a while, testing out certain things from almost all the mods on the NEI subsets list except for a few that I am confident about and not going to remove anyway like thaumcraft and MFR. Got a few crashes, removed a few mods. Then I started a "unserious" single player world which I didnt expect to last very long, cheated in thaumcraft boots of the traveler so I could move around quicker and progress faster. You could do the same with the modsauce pack, just play it single player and dont be afraid to cheat to save some time in the testing process.

I've been running a ModSauce server for a couple of weeks now. With Fastcraft the chunk generation is bearable, but still noticeable. I haven't had the server crash ever, the client though has some issues and regular (but unpredictable) crashes.

The mods included are lots of fun and a nice change from Monster.

The two client crash bugs I have found so far are Advanced drawbridges instantly crash anyone in nearby chunks when activated and the gas-burning engine will not accept any gas from pipes or tanks and will actually crash when hooking up to the separator or a pipe.

Other than that it has been very stable on the server using version 1.0.0.2
