Okay, so it sounds that TE and Mek are the more "easy route" mods, while it takes more effort in IC2 to reach the same results... interesting.

Since my modpack is about complexity and difficulty, I guess they kind of fit. Weird.

Well, TE is easy mode :)

IC2e is just flappy and lots of work to achieve the same limited results as you could get in the previous version.

Mek's endgame stuff is complex but the rewards are incredibly sexy.

They're not easy routes - they're just more accessible, mainly because of default auto-eject features and they're own pipes. Also "effort" in IC2 is really just pointless grind.

Oh, so it's not easy route. If I understand this, the problem is with item transportation. Doesn't seem too bad... Or am I missing something?

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
It more complexity and building design when using the mod, not in crafting the actual items.
The easymode @1SDAN is talking about has nothing to do with the recipes.

Buildcraft is pretty fun to design with; TE not so much.

Extracting items takes 3 blocks of space (pipe, engine, lever/signal). More engines=faster extraction, at the cost of space. Higher tier engines are even faster; at the cost of fuel. Bring in gated controls and you have some pretty sweet stuff going.

By engaging the player with the inherent limitations of the mod (engine control, item overflow ect), and providing the tools for the player to design his/her own solution to those limits results a more rewarding and creative game than simply providing the solution right from the off.

Also the unnecessary complexity of the energy, crafting and GUI. There are much fewer ways to automate using only IC2.

So, maybe modpacks can use this "crappiness" and make it the cheapest auto-miner but also the worst in design? That way it technically still has a use.

BTW, you think IC2 automation is hard? In my pack, I'm making it so you have 2 choices for automation: Railcraft/Steve's Carts and Hoppers/Ducts. If you find a lack of auto-export inconvenient, you'll rage at that method. ^

Um, I don't think any said it was it was hard - I said harder. But Railcraft/Steve's Carts for transportation sounds really fun. Throw Galacticraft in there for long range transport. Also IC2 does have auto-export it's just not there by default.

It makes systems way too simple.
I understand that.

@1SDAN, if you are talking about me and thinking IC2 automation is hard, you are wrong. I pretty much only use Railcraft for my automation, sorting, processing, etc.

Railcraft and Steve's Carts in general are really fun and underused.

Understood, I guess I kind of jumped to conclusions. But I'm glad that rails are still being used by the community. It feels like things like the tesseract and pipes and such are overshadowing them recently. #ConductorsUnite! (Still feels weird whenever I use a hashtag)

Railcraft has been my favorite tech mod (when combined with MJ and EU APIs) since 1.5.2.
Pipes are boring now.
Hashtags feel weird because you have no reason to use them on the forums.
