I'm carrying lava up to make a nether portal mold, and I fell from a ravine ledge. I tried to catch myself with the "bucket of water against the wall" trick.

Wrong bucket.

Incidentally, it's only 99% true that Dye forests are Awesomely OP. I'm the 1%. Damn Dye trees and their one million different kinds of wood...

well, it's been a while since I posted this story, but here goes.
for a while I was in a hardcore world streak, everytime I died I had to start over.
so as always, I died and created a new world. I spawned in one of those biome's o plenty type of jungles.
it looked pretty nice and safe, so I was all ready to go and made my first step forwards... right into quicksand

while I screamed no and struggled to stay alive, after a few seconds I just embraced my oncoming death... and I died.
my first time dying in a hardcore world within the first 10 seconds

First time I was using a bedrock breaker I stopped it halfway through the third block down. When trying to get the dust out of the machine it fell in the hole. I jumped into the hole to get it. Then I couldn't get out. Since I was standing on a partial block I couldn't jump high enough to place a block underneath.

Fortunately I had a bucket of water in my tool bag or I would have been stuck there for a long time.

Playing Magic Farm 2 for the first time. Day 1, i couldn't get a bed in time. Day 2, chopped some wood. I came across one of the infernal mobs and punched it to death for a diamond helm. I later came across another infernal, in which i proceeded to punched to death for a diamond chestplate. I'm running low on hunger and my drying racks seem to be going a lot slower than normal, so i'm basically out of food. Forgot what pack i was playing and ate raw Zombie Flesh which took up the last 3 food bars i had and killed me in about a second. Then, gravestones glitched out and i lost my diamond armor.

As par usual Nether trip, I'm heading out to find a fortress and run smack long into a ghast. Fortune smiled upon me and I managed to kill it and gained the Morph. Excited me thinks it woudl be totally awesome to be a ghast. So I do. I quickly realised how big my hitbox just became while being attacked by damn firebats. I quickly slay the lot and obtain the firebat Morph.
My first thought, "OMG! I can fly and not have a ridiciulous hitbox! Let's do it!"
My secound though after I Morph, "OMFG! I can't fly!"
After my quick fall into lava, I was informed by the rest of the players on the server that Morphs from other mods don't give any abilities.

I think there's a file on GitHub to rectify this. I think it supports Thaumcraft, Ars Magica, Twilight Forest and a few more.

Using a Ti C tool to place blocks can result in wall related suffocation.

Decide I want to go to the UnderDark, OK, time to craft some unstable ingots.

I know to make sure that I can craft the portal in time, I'll put two crafting tables next to each other, prepare one with the cobblestone. Oops. That's right, you can't close the crafting table.

So, second attempt. I wasn't quick enough resulting in a death. Interesting factoid, I died by only one of the ingots, the others didn't proceed any further, so when I opened the crafting table (I've turned off mob griefing, so there was no hole in the ground and the crafting table was still there), there were still 3 unstable (but nearly exploded) ingots, closing the table resulted in another death.

I ended up just axing the table to solve the issue.

My favorite death is falling into lava, trying to douse the lava with a water bucket, and accidentally sealing myself underneath obsidian in a lava lake while not fireproof.

You'd think this would never happen except in vanilla. Somehow that expectation is always wrong.

Go AFK quickly.
Forget I was doing it quickly
Forget I didn't log out
Sit and eat for 20 minutes
Come back to see all my stuff floating everywhere, about 5km from home.

Luckily I was admin on this server and.. well.. let's just say I didn't lose too much stuff in the end (I had a brand new cobalt hammer, and a pickaxe with Luck III FFS!)

I set up my first Jet engine from Rotary Craft and notice the shafts not turning. I go to the engine and try to figure out what's wrong. I notice I forgot a fluiduct for the fuel and attach it to the bottom where it's supposed to go. Still nothing. So I place a lever next to the engine and, stupidly forgetting a minor detail about jet engines, turn on the lever WHILE STANDING BEHIND IT. Needless to say, I died and my skype friends were cackling like mad. Oh and then there's the time I AFKed ontop of a rotary craft grinder....
