Well your report shows this....I dont think its a memory issue.
I allocated 5gb for Minecraft from 12gb. The out of memory spam happens when I am the menu only.
I updated from 1.2.6 to 1.2.8. Could not connect.
I now updated to 1.2.7 from 1.2.6. there were no problems.
I'll try updating now from 1.2.7 -> 1.2.8 see if this fixes the problem.

- Added a Tutorial Mode which guides you through the pages you should read, in order, to get a good understanding of the mod's basics.
- Added Corporea, a new mechanic that allows for item verbal requesting. Here's a video of it in action while it was still in development, it looks a bit cooler now.This is by no means meant to be an AE replacement or competitor, just throwing it out there.
- Added a Bottle of Ender Air, used as a crafting material and as means to create renewable End Stone.
- Added End Stone Bricks and Chiseled End Stone Bricks. It's totally a good addition, stop judging me!
- Added more alternate textures in the Unity texture pack style by Tobbvald to join those by Futureazoo, you can enable them in the config file.
- Added some disclaimers to the lexicon that shears made of mana materials will trigger tripwire and that blood magic messes with the fallen kanade (if BM is loaded).

- Changed the creative tab so all the fluff (decorative blocks and the like) is right at the end rather than in the middle.

- Fixed the barrier display of the Gaia Guardian being 1 block off.

Since today it's like hardly any mobs spawn at all. I saw a few spawn, so I my first thought, that someone put down a magnum torch, is wrong, but still hardly anything spawns at all anymore. (yesterday it was like 20~30 mobs around the base within first 5 minutes of the night, today it's hardly 5 during the whole night)

No idea where the out of memory error comes from. there has to be some kind of memory leak?
I have stable 80 fps on 1.2.7 in my base.

This is something i notice a lot in modded minecraft. On my friend's server if you spent too much time at your base mobs would stop spawning but for some reason leaving and returning through PortalGun Portals would suddenly mean mobs could spawn again. cycling the game difficulty to peaceful seems to help with the issue as well in this pack. I've actually gotten to the point where my cursed earth spawner gets down to one or two mobs per minute. cycle to peaceful and back to hard and the flood starts again.
Anyone who complains about the blood recipes isn't trying. about 1hr of a cursed earth spawner into a 2x2x1 smeltery and i couldn't void the blood fast enough and still collect the liquid ender. Collected all the blood i could ever need (mostly due to a handful of immortal infernal mobs gunking it up).
The ingot recipe for brass is messed up. 3 ingots of copper and 1 ingot of zinc yield only 1 ingot of brass instead of 4.
I agree that recipe should be changed to at least 2 or three ingots, the crucible recipe should stay better, note you also get 6 plates for those same inputs, so for recipes where plates are interchangeable you really should use the plates. Note, the crafting recipe is not shapeless and must be in a 3x3 crafting window.
