This would have been awesome if this thread is necroposted with a derailing post :D
Give it time (we'll check back in a year)

Ok I said I supported necro, but I should amend that with a caveat. Its good when the poster indicates that he or she is aware that dark arts are about to be unleashed.

"I realize this is an old post, but I wanted to contribute new information in case it helps" or some such.

Remember the three "R"s: Reduce, Re-use, Re-animate. I find necro-whinging to be much more annoying than necro-posting. If you are annoyed by getting a notification about a pertinent and on-topic post to a thread that is a bit old, why do you think that I will be less annoyed by you posting an off-topic and irrelevant-to-the-thread complaint? I consider a "Holy necroposting Batman" post to be a derailing post, which I am against in the strongest terms. If I was a moderator, you'd be getting ban-hammered for that shit.

Regardless of what people think NECRO'ing a thread is not a bad thing, it shows the person can be bothered to use the search function or at least spends the time to search posts which maybe relevant to his/her issue.

What's bad is dragging a post up from the dead just to say something irrelevant or silly.

As for hijacking .... it's more like mutiny, we're fed up with the thread and taking over, which is really hijacking and mutiny I guess. I'll shut up now and let someone hijack this.

You haven't been properly annoyed by a thread necro until you see the overly ripe 3 year old reeker brought back by someone responding "me too" (originally an AOL phenomenon) or "ditto" (more prevalent in the pre-oxycontin Rush Limbaugh days).

Hijacking adds spontaneity to a subject someone thought needed spicing up a bit, usually.

Even worse is when someone rages against 3 year old information that is no longer even valid.

this happened before necromancy was cool. it's a historically accurate docudrama on the black arts, i recommend it highly.

I haven't seen mods popping up in posts for a while, which is an awfully great thing. I don't think we need any backseat moderating to compensate for their reduced activity. I'll take a necro-post over "be nice" or "stay on topic" all day long.

Conversations digress, its how humans communicate.
