Heh I don't think you'll find you miss buildcraft too much, all told. All the mod expert has some promise, too.. And it's 1.10 which is my jam. Except, I really miss buildcraft, ugh! There's always something with these packs! lol.
Sure, I could be less fickle, too. But it is what it is. I still think it will end up having to be infinity, though. I really want to Thaumcraft so I can retire 1.7 forever. But I also want to chisels and bits myself a kick ass castle.
Is blood magic anything close to Thaumcraft? I've never even looked into it.

Go for it! I started playing Regrowth for the first time a couple of weeks a go, that's a 1.7.10 pack that goes back quite some ways, but I'm having an absolute blast with it! Though I'm totally with you - I miss AA too, especially the drill! Its funny the things you don't even realise you're used to until they're gone!I already miss buildcraft. The only real beef I had with Beyond was that the only real quarry option was the quantum quarry. And that's just way too automatic for me. I want a quarrying option, but I want it to require some kind of maintenance/progression. And I want it to look and feel like I built a quarry that is digging, not just collecting random blocks from some invisible source.
There's a drawback to every option, though.
-I like almost everything about Infinity, except, I'm going to lose my AA drill and I won't be able to record like I did with Beyond. And, not chisels and bits, though I can still have carpenter's blocks so I can still do some shaping.
-I like the idea on Age of Engineering, as it's an entire slowly building progression system for automating everything. But it doesn't have any magic/exploration and all that, which is as much for me as it is for my other peeps.
-I like the idea of all the mods expert, but I still get the impression that 1.10+ stuff is a bit more limited than 1.7 stuff. I'm also concerned about the system requirements for 1.10 vs 1.7 now that we're going to be running one of them off a potato.
So, I'm still leaning towards infinity, if only to get all the old school stuff out of my system. The expert mode with the guide now seems like a really good way to get to know all the mods I skipped before. I've never built anything with tinkers, for example. I just pushed it aside. I didn't bother making any tracks because I couldn't figure out how to make the damn rails in railcraft, lol (it was my first ever modpack the first time I tried it). I think this is the way to go, but I'm happy to be reeducated!
YESSSSSS@Drbretto Good news for you and me and everyone. https://minecraft.curseforge.com/projects/openblocks/files/2461052 OpenBlocks has been ported.
That would be the dream.YESSSSSS
and I heard that Mcjty might pick up Thaumcraft so let's hope that happens to!
You know what, I totally get where you're coming from though. I first came across Buildcraft when playing Tekkit way back in the day, and I completely understand always wanting it to be part of your game. This is why I'm OK with IC2, even with all its changes - because it still feels to me like IndustrialCraft, and... I've MISSED that! (the BC thing is why I'm having fun with Regrowth - its key in that). That Technic pack also had Thaumcraft 2 (awesome, but screw the taint in that) and Mo' Creatures (F**K those trolls man. I had one go through my goddamn WALL when the configs got reset - I'd adjusted them to not spawn).Well, that might cover the look portion of it, lol. But that still defeats the purpose.
I started on Buildcraft on my first modded world. It was part of Infinity, too, but I had no earthly idea what to do, so I only explored some bit of what it can do. I've noticed that 1.10 mods tend to skip the small stuff these days, and I figured since we're going back to a 1.7, now is the time to really get in and get the most out of the era I was too green to appreciate, giving 1.12 some time to catch up.
I want buildcraft for everything buildcraft can do. I haven't even touched logistics pipes yet.
