Possibly! I'm playing Beyond and Regrowth on a laptop, and they seem to get by fine - it depends on RAM and stuff obviously, but there's no reason why not in principle.

I'm trying to get her to get me the numbers so I can find out. We will need to. As long as we're playing on the PS4, my PS4 is hijacked. This makes for an excellent excuse to ease them into the modded versions... :p

All the mod expert has some promise, too.. And it's 1.10 which is my jam. Except, I really miss buildcraft, ugh! There's always something with these packs! lol.

Sure, I could be less fickle, too. But it is what it is. I still think it will end up having to be infinity, though. I really want to Thaumcraft so I can retire 1.7 forever. But I also want to chisels and bits myself a kick ass castle.

Is blood magic anything close to Thaumcraft? I've never even looked into it.

Heh :) I don't think you'll find you miss buildcraft too much, all told.

mmm... sort of? In a similar vein to thaumcraft, botania, witchery etc it has an altar, but it is also unique - the different tiers of altar are obtained by adding blocks in a specific pattern in the vicinity of the altar, where higher tiers go further out and down. Likewise the crafting mechanic requires a certain amount of liquid to be in the altar; if it runs dry, the progress begins to go backwards. There are two sources for the life liquid - yourself, or others. Depending on which you want to focus on will dictate what blocks you put around the altar. There's also armour, weapons, other crafting and resource generation mechanics, a tonne of stuff.

I already miss buildcraft. The only real beef I had with Beyond was that the only real quarry option was the quantum quarry. And that's just way too automatic for me. I want a quarrying option, but I want it to require some kind of maintenance/progression. And I want it to look and feel like I built a quarry that is digging, not just collecting random blocks from some invisible source.

There's a drawback to every option, though.

-I like almost everything about Infinity, except, I'm going to lose my AA drill :( and I won't be able to record like I did with Beyond. And, not chisels and bits, though I can still have carpenter's blocks so I can still do some shaping.

-I like the idea on Age of Engineering, as it's an entire slowly building progression system for automating everything. But it doesn't have any magic/exploration and all that, which is as much for me as it is for my other peeps.

-I like the idea of all the mods expert, but I still get the impression that 1.10+ stuff is a bit more limited than 1.7 stuff. I'm also concerned about the system requirements for 1.10 vs 1.7 now that we're going to be running one of them off a potato.

So, I'm still leaning towards infinity, if only to get all the old school stuff out of my system. The expert mode with the guide now seems like a really good way to get to know all the mods I skipped before. I've never built anything with tinkers, for example. I just pushed it aside. I didn't bother making any tracks because I couldn't figure out how to make the damn rails in railcraft, lol (it was my first ever modpack the first time I tried it). I think this is the way to go, but I'm happy to be reeducated!

Go for it! :) I started playing Regrowth for the first time a couple of weeks a go, that's a 1.7.10 pack that goes back quite some ways, but I'm having an absolute blast with it! :) Though I'm totally with you - I miss AA too, especially the drill! Its funny the things you don't even realise you're used to until they're gone!

Every option loses something! lol. I supposed that's part of what makes it great in a weird way. I'll always have something new to try to get into down the line.

Doesn't Beyond have rf tools?
You can. Use its builder as a quarry with a clearing card. Makes big buildcrafty holes in the world.

Yeah, I've tried that one. It's still not quite it. It's nice that it leaves the buildcrafty holes, but it misses the rest of the feel of it. Buildcraft feels like some kind of industrial project that feels almost believable to be built out of materials found in the minecraft world. RFTools feels like technology granted from outer space.

True.
You could always build an immersive engineering excavator and hide an rf tools builder near it, get the physical coolness of the ie excavator with the buildcrafty hole.

Well, that might cover the look portion of it, lol. But that still defeats the purpose.

I started on Buildcraft on my first modded world. It was part of Infinity, too, but I had no earthly idea what to do, so I only explored some bit of what it can do. I've noticed that 1.10 mods tend to skip the small stuff these days, and I figured since we're going back to a 1.7, now is the time to really get in and get the most out of the era I was too green to appreciate, giving 1.12 some time to catch up.

I want buildcraft for everything buildcraft can do. I haven't even touched logistics pipes yet.

At least buildcraft is in 1.11.2 and 1.12. Hopefully one day somewhere at some time, maybe, Thaumcraft will be ported.

I'm less hopeful about Thaumcraft. I think that will be the symbol of the 1.7 era and lost forever. Best hope is that there's some kind of spiritual successor some day that is awesome in its own right.

Sooooo.....

All the Mods Remastered, you say? Lol

I'm comparing the performance between 1.7 and 1.10+ as I'm looking for that "perfect seed" and damn, I don't know if I CAN do Infinity. The difference is pretty noticeable.

I liked what they had to say about it in that Reddit post, so gonna scope that out for a minute. Gotta make sure my friends could handle it, too.

You know what, I totally get where you're coming from though. I first came across Buildcraft when playing Tekkit way back in the day, and I completely understand always wanting it to be part of your game. This is why I'm OK with IC2, even with all its changes - because it still feels to me like IndustrialCraft, and... I've MISSED that! (the BC thing is why I'm having fun with Regrowth - its key in that). That Technic pack also had Thaumcraft 2 (awesome, but screw the taint in that) and Mo' Creatures (F**K those trolls man. I had one go through my goddamn WALL when the configs got reset - I'd adjusted them to not spawn).

Well, I accidentally unplugged my PS4 while the other two were playing and it corrupted the save. Luckily, my first ever world is not gone thanks to cloud saves, but they lost 3 days of work. So... they're done with that world forever, loll.

Decision time is imminent! I'd like to be 100% decided by the end of the day today, and as always, I am struggling. I swear, it's not me that's making this difficult, it's my friends. When I started this thread, it was just me. If it was just me, I'd be knee deep in an Age of Engineering run by now.

Here's the new, adjusted goals:

-All I want to do is build a huge castle and surrounding village, with each building representing a different mod hub, so I'm the most flixible
-My buddy Tim is the one we're trying to get hooked. He doesn't build. He mines and kills, basically. He needs something to explore and some stuff worth killing
-His wife and my other buddy Rebecca just wants to play with us, but can't really handle anything too complex.

This still SEEMS like infinity is the way to go, but this is the part where I'm a super snob, lol. Maybe I just need to find the right seed and texture pack, but there was something about it that just wasn't sitting right. And it's just so archaic.

I'm still totally open to any other suggestions. Being that it's not just me anymore, I supposed I don't HAVE to have an HQM pack. That would open some things like All the Mods 3 or Unstable, but I don't know enough about them. I popped into ATM:ER and it looked promising enough, but I flipped through the quest book and it looked underwhelming.

Once again, my biggest problem in minecraft is that I have friends that want to play with me, which I shouldn't be complaining about, but everyone wants something different out of it!
