Should we add Archimedes ships?

We should add Archimedes ships to monster. Its already a great pack with great mods and the addition of real ships would be great

also can anyone tell me why as of February 17 there is no more better storage?

I think AS is such a unique and situational mod that only very few people will use and if so then only very rarely. Therefore I don't think it should be a default part of the modpack. It would just be a strain on resources for everyone else playing the modpack for no good reason. If people really want it, then it should not be hard to add it.

Achimedes ships has horrendous interactions with tile entities added by mods. Also, if Slowpoke wanted to use it in his 'Feed the Beast' challenge map, he would have added it to Monster. Apparently he does not.
You must also remember the mod is included in the horizons pack, so we see that there is a community demand for the mod.[DOUBLEPOST=1392671535][/DOUBLEPOST]
I think AS is such a unique and situational mod that only very few people will use and if so then only very rarely. Therefore I don't think it should be a default part of the modpack. It would just be a strain on resources for everyone else playing the modpack for no good reason. If people really want it, then it should not be hard to add it.
Remember that all most every mod is situational in their own respective areas. For example railcraft deals solely with rails, among other examples im too lazy to list

I don't really think you can compare Archimedes ships and railcraft.
AS does ships and zeppelins.
Railcraft does rails, carts etc. yes, but also tanks, coke ovens, blast furnace, boilers, steam engines, chunkloaders, stones/building blocks, walls/fences, lamps, armour, tools, weapons.

There is a really good reason why Railcraft was chosen and Archimedes ships was not I think.

I seem to recall Slowpoke, Jaded or another pack builder mentioning that Archimedes Ships was included in Horizons but not Monster due to server load, and Monster is expected to be the "Flagship" pack installed on Servers while Horizons is more of a new mod showcase pack for Single players.

I couldn't find a forum reference so if I haven't lost my marbles somewhere I may have heard it on a live-stream.

There is a really good reason why Railcraft was chosen and Archimedes ships was not I think.
Im not disagreeing with you, railcraft is a great mod, I do enjoy my little trains, however im simply making the case that there are allot ot situational mods, mabey railcraft was a bad example. Take mods susch as JABBA, flat signs, backpacks, dye trees, infibows, meteor craft..ect. most are all one trick ponies...

Again, let me reiterate. Monster is Slowpoke's baby. It's the modpack he's using to make his 'Feed the Beast' challenge map. If he wanted Archimedes Ships to be in the pack, it would be. If he didn't, it won't be.
Allright Allright, I see your point, im suggesting a change in the pack. Isn't that rhe point of a forum? To get community input? Were the FTB packs not the product of a need for a uniform way for people to easily install mods and play together? In conclusion, yes. Slowpoke may be a little hesatant to suggestion, but thats no reason to completely dismiss my idea.

In the case of Monster, however, it is a valid reason to completely dismiss suggestions. If I understand it all correctly, Monster is created to Slowpoke's specifications for use on the FTB maps; as such, mods will be added or removed to fit this need, not the community's wishes.

While this is absolutely true as far as I understand it too, I am also sure Slowpoke and the rest of the team has us users in mind when they design the packs. And I am sure they constantly way which mods to include depending on how many will most likely use it, how big a benefit they will have from using it, and how bit a burden it is on servers/PCs from having in the pack. And I must just admit that AS just adds very little to very few(Not saying that its not a fine mod, but compared to the other pillar mods like TE, IC2, TC etc) while apparently being a bit resource heavy.

first of all, I would like a source for your info that the pack is solely for that purpose. Second, by your logic, the united states of America should have never been created. The original 13 colonies were created in a purely economic sense. Are you saying that because something is initially created with a purpose in mind it can't change? What is this, the estates system of pre-Napoleonic France? Is this a system in which everything is set in stone? Is the FTB staff a bunch of dictorial leaders representing a cast system comparable to India in the late 1800's? Really, one change that will not affect the pack on whole is not reason to dismiss my ideas[DOUBLEPOST=1392675670][/DOUBLEPOST]

thank you, someone who understands the reason for this post. i merely wanted to make my case for the mod as well as gather community opinions

From what I've heard, Archimedes ships is super extremely laggy mclaggy-lagged lag lag lag. That laggy, all the "mclaggy" stuff was necessary.

Of course, I haven't used the mod yet, but this is what I've heard. Meh.

look again to all the other one trick ponies I listed earlier. That's not all of then either

Here. Under the modpacks section it states the flagship pack is in testing. This pack is then later fully revealed here. I also never stated it was "solely" for this purpose, as it also seems to serve the secondary function of being an Unleashed replacement.

If you want the mod in Monster so badly, then manually add it. It's bloody trivial to do so, and takes all of a couple of minutes.

Edited to remove a response to the remainder of the post due to the flame war I can see happening. Let's keep this discussion civil and leave out history, name calling, etc, m'kay?

Though honestly, I'm entirely thinking of riping Monster apart and doing a 2.x.x. very soon.
As in giving up on the current Monster and then starting over without some mods?
Not really the proper place for this, but not sure where else is. But what exactly is keeping Monster from stable atm? Slowpoke mentioned mod instabilities. Is there a specific mod that is keeping the modpack back?

The author of AS and I agreed many many months ago when I first anounced Horizons as the first 1.6 release pack that it would be included in Horizons and only Horizons.
Though honestly, I'm entirely thinking of ripping Monster apart and doing a 2.x.x. very soon.
I wouldn't! Monster users including me are getting along fine with it through the disruptions we have recently experienced.
Though for 1.9/1.10 minecraft, could we have double the amount of mods! (-Including AC^)
