Frequent crashes lately

If there's a repeatable issue that can be labeled as a bug, then please use the issue tracker for the pack or the app at GitHub issue trackers - If there's no repository for a pack that means that the pack is old and/or will not be updated. Title Frequent crashes lately

Launcher Type Curse App

Modpack Direwolf20 1.10

Modpack version 1.9.1

Have you modified the pack? No

Link to log file http://paste.feed-the-beast.com/view/44e01373

Details of the issue Since updating to version 1.9.1 of the DW20 "Let's Play" season 8 modpack, I am experiencing several crashes a day - like 4-6 crashes in a day's play. The only displayed error message is words to the effect of "Unexpected error, game crashed, sorry'bout that". The game just hangs for a few seconds and then closes without any pre-close warnings or messages, and exits to the Windows desktop.

Before updating the modpack there were only occasional crashes, like maybe once a week, if that.

I have updated my graphics drivers, and Java, but the frequent crashes started happening before I did that.

Desktop PC running Win10
Intel Core i5-4440 @ 3.10GHz
8Gb RAM
GeForce GTX 980 Ti, latest drivers
Acer 2560x1440 @ 144Hz, with G_Sync.

Very grateful for any help, please?

Difficult to know for sure, there are a few things going on in this log which could be contributing. Firstly I would make sure that you don't have an antivirus product that could be scanning your game directory while playing, or make sure there isn't a problem with your hdd - the log is showing errors while reading files. You can also try upping your Xmx4096m to Xmx5G with these modern packs 4GB is the bare minimum you should be allocating.

Thanks for the quick reply Questzi.

MC and the modpacks (forgive me, I am not as clued up on mods as most others here!) are installed on a 1Tb HDD with loads of spare space.

My C: drive is a 110Gb SSD with very little room to spare, and it's creaking under the weight of Elite:Dangerous

MC tends to hang for a few seconds every so often, with disk thrashing sounds comping from the PC - I realise that's due to (a) not enough RAM, and (b) a mechanical drive.

I am therefore about to install a 250Gb SSD, additional to the above, and want to migrate MC & mods to that. I am also having my RAM upgraded to 16Gb. I'm afraid I don't know what "Xmx4096m to Xmx5G" means?

Well, as you are using the Twitch/Curse app it means going into the profile and moving the memory allocation slider to the right a bit :)

Er... how do I do that? I've had a look around the Twitch app, and found a couple of references to "profile", but not seen any sliders that I might change?

Edit: Ah, found the setting :). But 8Gb is all the RAM I have at the moment, until I get the upgrade 1o 16Gb). I guess I should hold off increasing the Java allocation until then?

Title Still frequent crashes

Launcher Type Curse App

Modpack Direwolf20 1.10

Modpack version 1.10.0

Have you modified the pack? No

Link to log file http://paste.feed-the-beast.com/view/56f939f8

Details of the issue Please see https://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/frequent-crashes-lately.229021/ for the first report on this issue.

I have, since then, upgraded my RAM as advised by Quetzi in that thread, and have allocated 8Gb to Minecraft. That has made no difference at all.

I'm still experiencing VERY frequent crashes since the 1.9.1 modpack update. Before that update, crashes were rare, perhaps once a week or so. Now crashes occur several times a day, every day.

Intervals between crashes are highly random, sometimes hours apart, but more usually less than one hour apart, and often 3 or 4 crashes occur in succession within a minute or so of start-up -- this effectively renders the game unplayable.

I haven't identified any common factor or action that results in a crash. Some crashes are preceded by a few episodes of severe lagging, lasting a few seconds. I have tried rebooting the PC, but that makes no difference either.

No error message is displayed when the crash occurs. The game just halts, and after 2-3 seconds it exits to the Windows desktop. A green box appears overlaid on the "Minecraft launcher" banner, with words to the effect of "Crash. Unexpected issue. Sorry."

The only other application I have running in the foreground is Chrome.

Desktop PC running Win10
Intel Core i5-4440 @ 3.10GHz
24Gb RAM
GeForce GTX 980 Ti, latest drivers
Acer 2560x1440 @ 144Hz, with G_Sync.

I'd be *really* grateful if this issue can be corrected! Thank you :)

Best bet is to open /config/forge.cfg and change the line B:removeErroringTileEntities = false and set it to true. You may find that you lose a block or 2 in your save but those will be the ones causing your crashes.

That may solve it, but it sounds like this is an issue with block states, not tile entities.
To be exact, something is asking an EnderIO block property from a DarkUtils block.

Thanks Quetzi and Robijnvogel. I'm sorry, but I'm not quite clear on what course of action I should take now? Robijnvogel, does your comment suggest I do something other than what Quetzi recommended?

Edit: Will losing Fused Quartz not impact on existing items/blocks, or new ones? Specifically, Dimensional Transceiver, Pressurised Fuid Conduit, Soul Vial all require Fused Quartz- are all items/blocks which are essential in direwolf20's Let's Play season 8. In some cases "anyglasshardened" is accepted in a recipe, but the one's I've listed above only allow "anyfusedquartz", but the only fused quartz on offer in JEI is that from EnderIO.

Well, the specific block in that crash is the one at -360,72,-108 so you might be able to /setblock -360 72 -108 minecraft:air failing that you could use mcedit to remove the individual block. It's entirely possible that this will be an iterative process though and you'll just find the problem manifests in another block instead.

Quetzi, that block is indeed a Sneaky False Block "painted" with some kind of dark glass, and forms a "window" of 4x4 identical blocks, as per DW20's original mob spawning room. There are a few other options that will have the same effect, so I could easily remove and replace all instances of SFBs and replace with (for example) Dark Ineffable Glass. Is that likely to be useful?

Okay, I took out all the Sneaky False Blocks and replaced them with Ineffable Glass, but the game still crashes as before.

What should I try next? Will another logfile be useful?

I'm getting desperate Robijmvogel. I really need a clue as to what i should do to fix it. I've read both your and Questzi's comments, but they seem to be not entirely in agreement - unless I've misread them? I'm not that tech savvy that I can make sense of it.

PS: I've had another two crashes since my last post!

PPS: Three. Before it's even properly rendered the room.

I have informed Darkhax. Let's see what he says. :)

Sorry to be a pest, but I thought this logfile might be useful? http://paste.feed-the-beast.com/view/4a40102b

I can't recall how I did it, and now cannot find the setting, but a while ago I set a setting that caused the game to output a list of actions as it was loading. It stops while all is well, but then outputs again when the wheels fall off. I've put a row of "=" at the point where output stops, where the game menu is displayed on-screen.

PS - Not sure if it's just my imagination, but crashes often seem related to accessing the inventory grid (RefinedStorage/JEI). Probably less than half the time though.
