Just to add to that, quarries are expensive to maintain, they can suck up to 48 MJ/t each off your power grid unless you independently power them all (more trouble than its worth)

You know you can just set a redstone energy cell between your power grid and your quarry and set the input and output of the cell to how much you want to send to the quarry from the power grid.

very true, and you can run a quarry quite efficiently at 6 MJ a tick with a setup like that.

However even at max speed, My 3 quarries don't bring in the amount of resources I want (always lacking lapis and uranium) - and fuel is cheap. I couldn't imagine running a quarry so slowly just so that I could use it as a cheap source of cobble - especially when there are cheaper sources.

Working on a frame machine to fetch what I want a bit more efficiently, but all I've got at the moment are the quarries.

There is only one "right" mining method and that involves tearing huge holes into the landscape. No time for wussy IC2 miners, 4 64x64 BC quarries powered by 2 36 HP boilers is the only right way. ;)

Mine a large hollow hill. Don't even need to quarry unless you're "that guy". The lapis quantity reaches metric buttload levels. Its like lapis was used as a filler since in vanilla its not really useful.

Also, the xeno's reliquary alchemy is a path to limitless lapis.

I use the dirt and cobble to create large flat areas to work with. I use a filler with land marks and pipe in the materials to the filler. This way I have large areas to build in that area totally flat. I even run around mining the ores that get exposed so I dont lose them (the filler destroys blocks now it doesn't drop them)

Eww, I never seem to have enough dirt. I have tons of lapis, and uranium, when I'm just walking around the hole my drill makes, I kinda just pick off some ruby ore and uranium ore. But I never have enough dirt. Or clay for that matter. The only way I know how to make renewable clay is through UU, which I am not wasting on anything like...clay.

yeah, i will figure out what to do with it, most of the time i leave one cobble chest per quarry and when its full i just let the cobble pop out of the chest and unload itself eventually

I'll be honet I keep a barrel of cobble around .... jsut in case you never know when you will need a large amount of it and dont want to wait on the couble gen.

I couldn't see not keeping an extradimensional barrel of cobble around at the VERY least. Cobble is so useful, and who the heck wants to have to wait on a cobblestone generator/etc? Not me, that is who!

Well my quarry is powered completely independently right now by 6 combustion engines that has a fluid tesseract hooked up for lava, it gets the lava from the nether with two pumps that have 4 redstone engines each, so i never run out of lava. I have two aqueous accumulators and 2 water pumps pumping water so that i never have overheating. They put out enough energy to move the quarry along nicely. Until i get my sorting house done and stock up on materials this is how it will be run, i will soon have a energy tesseract for a quarry that is farther away, as i need more materials. I think i am going to just void my extra cobble but keep 4 crystal chests of cobble at the handy at all times. With my quarries running 24/7 there is no way i can keep up with the amount of cobble/dirt coming in.

Like a Railcraft tank full of Water?

Actually, I do have a railcraft tank full of water as it looks nice. But I also do not often need a few stacks of water when I'm making a new build in a void age, or the like. But I DO often need MORE than one bucket, in which case Ender Tanks's ender bucket option is the king of the hill when properly set up.

Now, when Xycraft adds tanks you can be inside, I will finally be able to set up a bathtub (maybe closer to a very badly design shower?), excellent!

I'm running my quarry at 50mj/t constantly, and I keep up with it just fine. Lots of overclockers in the recycler does the trick.

They gonna add Ender Tanks? Seems like a good mod, no more "op" than enderchests or liquid tesseracts. I guess I could send a bucket to be filled, but...

Can you enter Railcraft tanks if someone makes them around you? I know Endermen can spawn inside them.

What??? i only have 6 mj/t how do you get it to be that fast? it must do a 64x64 in less than a minute. hahha

Enlighten me! :>

never mind, i just hooked it up to a redstone energy cell, it goes fast as hell!

Now i just need a way to charge this up at the same rate its coming in. How do you do it?

Ender Storage just added an "ender tank" block, but the mod I am talking about is ShetiPhian's Ender Tanks mod. It was turned down by the FTB team because Ender Storage is set to add ender tanks, but I've yet to hear about ender buckets from Ender Storage, and the only reason I care about ender tanks is for ender buckets to allow me to make a way to always have water in a bucket, and always be able to pull it away without having to first replace a current water bucket.

The tank will not turn into a tank if you are inside of it. And I've never seen an enderman spawn in one, but now I'm going to have to try and make that happen. And I shall name him Fred, and I will love him, and hold him, and squeeze him until he stops struggling/dies.

Yeah, redstone energy cells are awesome! Now, currently, I am using two 36HP boilers running off of biofuel made from biomass made from sugar cane. As my quarry is in another MystCraft age from my boilers, I use a crescent wrench turtle to move the redstone cells for me. I'm also using buildcraft gates to detect the amount of energy in the cells.
If you go with something similar, make a dedicated cell for the quarry so you can set it to whatever MJ/t you want, and then have your turtle move a different cell which I'd suggest keeping at 100/100/disabled (100MJ/t input, 100MJ/t output, and disabled redstone so it doesn't get screwed up from the gate).
Tell me if you'd like some more details.
