Yeah, I hate people that use my machines when I'm using them (they take my stuff out and put theirs), build however they want, ruin the landscape, quarry everything they find, etc.

I don't mind if they used my machines, but wait for my stuff to finish at least.

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
I usually go fairly far away, because I'm kinda picky about my area- usually basalt and marble within a short distance and a sea view (I love the look of glass walls underwater).

Second reason- I don't want someone living on my doorstep, nothing worse than building a load of reinforced stone and someone setting up their shack next door- then whining about living next to a reactor.

However I'm ok with people stopping by and using my stuff- just dont make a mess.

First of all, if I don't want others to use my machines, I'd just put up a sign. Seriously, MFFS killers and item stealers? Did we forget how to behave like a decent human being? (Most of the time though my machinery is completely covered by automation to such degree that you can't access it manually, and if you can, the products will go directly to my storage room anyway. :D)

I like having a very close neighborhood. Sure, you can use various portals to get to each other, but when they're hundreds of blocks away it just feels like you're popping into their private world. I like watching other people develop right beside me, share the same geography and to some degree the same limited resources (silverwood trees for example), even building roadways and railways connecting our bases. (But it's a shame that four out of five cases I see the same set of solars / electric engines / nether lava pump / Steve's treefarm into biofuel setups... :( )

I don't understand the sentiment really. I was the first one with a railcraft furnace and told others they can use it as long as it's not cooking anything for myself. Same goes for a lot of my other machines. We have a stargate that can gate people to everyone's bases so in that sense we're all very close to each other.

We also have a community center that has most of the machines for the people who aren't as 'advanced' yet as some of the other players.

Might make the "sharing Mod".
It teaches people to share with others.

Basic principle is you use a magic ring to turn a vilager into your parent of choice, who then teaches you about sharing.
I may expand it later to also teach people about manners and self entitlement.

Sadly develepment is held up as my brother said I can only use use his pc over his dead body. :(

i'm very picky about where i set up shop. i love the lush biomes like meadows and have them near redwoods. I also don't like exposed builders. people who buils their gadgets completely in the open. Farms i understand but exposed tanks and pipes all over annoy me. So by default i go far away from others.

right now i'm on a friend's server and most of the mods live together. its nice to have like minded people. Sure nothing is perfect but considerable people who actually contribute can be fun.

Personally I find the MFFS stuff to be hilarious, but I do my best not to NEED that sort of thing. It truly depends on the members of the server. But no matter how far or close you live, nothing can stop the incessant chat from people who want an entire energy system explained in game, instead of them reading a wiki

I prefer to have a rather flat biome for easy set up and nicer looking places. My choice of defense you say? Warded stone, glass and doors with iron keys to only two ppl. And a form of definitive repellent? A pressure plat that unleashes hordes of golems with dart launches that kills players.

There are times I like company in Minecraft but othertimes it can really try your patience. I play on a small server with a few friends. Most of the time it is cool but othertimes it can be a real headache. A friend who has no idea about my nuclear reactor decides that since it was out of uranium rods he would replace them. Unfortunately, that causes a problem in that he placed in 6 dual rods more than my stable reactor uses. Can you say big hole. Kind of a shock when you log in and see a hole where your house was. He had no idea what happened and was concerned more about what lost in on his person that was destroyed than what I had in the house. I knew I should have used reinforced stone but I thought "Hey, this reactor has zero chance to overheat and blow, why do I need to encase my reactor." Oh well back to mining again.

I typicly move as far as possible from spawn on servers. 5000 blocks plus. I, Preferably, will head out to around 12000 before building.

Why? Because i eat everything in sight, and don't want my yet-to-be-mined resources dirtied by others hands.

I prefer to be on the edge of the hustle and bustle of a server, not miles away it's like playing SSP, but not so close your fighting over resources and space. I'm so picky when it comes to the location of my base that, by the time I eventually start to utilise advanced machinery, other people already have them. That being said, I don't mind if a player wants to use my machines, so long as they don't drain my power grid, interfere with my interaction with the machines or generally start to take the p*ss. I generally operate a 1-strike policy, you p**s me off, I lock the place down tighter that Fort Knox

Do you live close to other players?
To answer your question OP, no. Because I mostly play alone or with family.

I don't get some of you guys. You want to play on a multiplayer server in a game like Minecraft, then be intolerant of others jerking your stuff around. You want to show off your "skillz" in Minecraft, but you don't want people touching it. It's like some of you want to be in a multiplayer environment, but within a single player medium. The loner that wants to be with others, only to be left alone.

You may as well play SSP and do a video and post it online. Problem solved with both gaining an ego boost and not letting anyone touch your stuff.

Build your house out I'd warded stone and use an arcane door to get in and out. Give people a key if you want ten to enter

Simple enough, I put automation in the basement and put communal access machines in a wing of my main floor. For things like the industrial grinder, you build it in the communal area but put the automated grinder on the back and a manual use grinder in the front with a hopper and an export chest. Easy peasy.

this is important on gregtech servers because it allows people who dont want to go down the tech line to use the gregtech builders setup to bypass it. makes both the GT person happy and the non-GT happy without having to find the perfect server with perfect configs.

I'd personally set up a fake base that's purely aesthetic, and then hide out in my underground warded-block bunker with all of my machines.

That's only if that sort of thing is a problem though. Any multiplayer worlds I have are usually one-day anyway, so a central processing station is usually set up, and then people branch out with their private projects.

I always live over 1000m away from most people, usually because the spawn is some crap snow biome where everyone lives. Most private servers I play on have people that are too lazy to fix creeper holes. I also like to explore. Towny sucks, especially for private servers.
