That some serious wealth going into that here machine. but hey. we aren't even capable of sustaining a fusion reaction IRL with our brightest and best funded scientists...
It woulda felt very wrong if our minecraft dudes could ccobble a working fusion reactor together from plain stone (I'm looking at you computercraft)

Well clearly then physicists need to get in touch with Greg and he can explain that they are missing are 3500 rubys.

I honestly don't understand what everyone's got against g-tech

If you like it, fine. But the default pack should not enable stuff that changes the recipies of the major mods simply because it confuses the heck out of new players (who find stuff on the wiki they can't build) or experiences players moving in from other mod packs. I think it would be nice if FTB would have a separate 'hardcore' pack with all the difficult stuff enabled (like hardcore bee breeding mode in Forestry) and GregTech enabled by default. Then sissies like me could stay with 'vanilla' FTB without GT ;)

I honestly don't understand what everyone's got against g-tech, it's awesome, when I finally built my effin gravi suit I started to jump around the room shouting' "F YOU GREG, F YOU!!" while cackling maniacally. It was great. I felt like beating a bear in arm wrestling.

By the way, did you know that you need over 3500 rubies for a fusion reactor?

What exactly is the full cost of making those anyway? How many diamonds, rubber, whatever?

Gregtech being removed? Didn't see that one coming!

I don't like the super cheap costs of Computercraft, a bit nervous all my friends on the server i'll be running will build turtles and never do anything themselves :(

I've said in multiple threads that I agree with GregTech being disabled by default, but about the recipes.. I think it's NEI that shows you how to make everything ingame with the search function if you have it enabled? I imagine most new players will consult that, other than when they are trying to find the source of an item (f.ex. ruby). Really helpful in general though. It would also be useful to know mod things are actually from ingame though, as someone mentioned in another thread.

If you have gregtech enabled you can make them ruby dust in the centrifuge, which if I recall correctly it's 4 per stack of redstone. Finding it I had no luck at all, in both red rock and desert biomes (and we live with multiple quarries in a savannah). We've found 1 ruby total for about 100 diamonds from the overworld.

2 questions:
1. everyone talks about disabling greg tech. Where do I find the config file (on a mac)? I'm trying to use the new recipes, but want the option to turn it off if needed.
2. where is the config file to turn on NEI (recipe only, I promise) for the insanity map?

For a strange reasons i feel more like i have accomplished something, and normally by now i would be bored and start to waste my resources.
Now i have to try and push as much out of them that i can.

One thing i have noticed, silver? Found no use for it and i get stacks of it... i normally land up throwing quite alot into lava since i hate storing useless items.

Found no use for it? Glass Fibre Cable? Electrum for cheaper circuits and Redstone Energy Cells and conduits? Factorization mirrors? Nothing?

Dude i don't even know what any of things are, i've been playing only since monday.

Fibre cable is a little of a waste for me atm, mirrors i don't know what they do? look at my self maybe LMAO.
conduits??? energy cells what can i do with them?

why would you throw away things you don't know what to do with?
watch a guide on youtube, dw20 did alot for the mods.

I have to second being incredulous at throwing away things you don't know what to do with. If you are still new to all this, throwing things away before you know what they're used for is a very bad idea.

Glass Fibre Cables are the best IC2 cables you can use for general purpose and you only have to worry about them overloading and melting from a reactor or something from GregTech. They have the energy loss of the tin cables, which allows for a great deal of leniency in how far you can stretch it without a Batbox or other buffer. And... as you can manufacture Diamonds with Coal through IC2 machines, more than a few players eventually replace all their Copper Cable with it since Copper Cable is used for IC2 crafting recipes and Glass Fibre Cable actually manages to stretch your resources farther.

Mirrors power the Factorization Solar Turbine. This is used to power Factorization ore processing machines which yield an average of 3 times the normal ore yield when used properly. Even if you don't use the rest of Factorization, the Furnace Heaters are the first method of free smelting I tend to be able to access. And if you do wind up using Factorization... You'll need the Lead you can get out of the Factorization Silver Ore to have enough.

Redstone Energy Conduits are an upgrade over Golden Conductive Pipes that are much easier to control, have little to no energy loss across distances, and increase the energy efficiency of any Buildcraft based energy network greatly. Redstone Energy Cells are the Buildcraft equivalent to a combination Batterybox and Battery. Both of these components are invaluable for any extensive amount of Buildcraft energy use and one of the best ways to make sure no Steam from a Boiler is wasted due to limited surface area for pipes.

I've been thinking the same. Perhaps FTB needs a mod that adjusts CC recipes so they are more inline with other items? To me, CC could make use of IC2 items in their construction, what with circuits, advanced circuits, refined iron, etc.

Mouse over an item in your inventory Rick, then press "u" to see uses or "r" to see how to get more of it. And maybe a little less gregtech hate here and a little more advice for a new player needing a leg up <3
Other than that, there's been a lot of good pointers here. 1st, macerator or pulveriser and furnace. Everything after that's cake.

Likewise, I believe the portalgun costs are too cheap too. Now, if Iridium Ore was part of the recipe (if linked to IC2), that would turn these items into a more of an endgame item, and give you something else to work towards.

Look everyone, it is just as easy to revert the recipe changes, as it is to remove the mod entirely, can we all stop petitioning against it? if you don't like it, just pop into the config files, and change the values on the Useful crafting recipe section... So please, do your research before whining about the mod, it's an excellent balancer, and game extender.

Hey. don't cha go dissing laser initialized inertial confinement fusion sonny. It works... There just so happens to not be a net gain with current laser technology.
and high quality rubies are used for lasers. (lab grown rubies that is. not natural ones. them's too unpure). so the ruby requirement is not as far fetched as one might think at first glance.

Screw that.

Minecraft deserves Fusion Power the Steampunk way.

Look at that, and tell me you wouldn't enjoy building a reactor ignited and maintained by 50 pistons pulsing against it.

General fusion. yeah. I've read about it, and I defnately would love to build a 50 piston steampunky fusion generator in minecraft. I just love steampunk.
Then again.. we could also have a polywell.. would use a lot of advanced alloys, superconductors and energy to fire up a proton-boron reaction.
No lazors, no pistons, just a vacuum chamber and a magnetic wiffleball.
Got ta keep the coils cool tho.. so a cryo coolant system is needed. (hydrogen cells could be crafted into cryo coolers that would be a part of the reactor recipie, or a needed component of a multiblock machine).
P.S. I really do like the multi block machines.. they not only look cool, but makes sense in a RL like fashion.

That doesn't solve the problem for newbies to FTB (like me) who get really confused because all the recipies they know or find on the web don't work anymore. That's why I personally think it should not be removed perse but should be disabled by default on new installations and on the default mod pack. It took me quite a while to figure out why the recipies changed and if I had been a bit less persistent I would have gone back to Tekkit.
