I'm still here, not dissapearing again. Had relatives come over before Thanksgiving for Thanksgiving 1--my sister, her hubby, and her 1-year old. Worked Thanksgiving, took a couple days off, worked today and tomorrow, plus my sister's here for Thanksgivin 2.
TL: DR--updates be sow for a bit.
.........heh. nope, not pig-related Livestock updates. just slow.
So I guess what I'm saying.......we're 12th place in this forum for number of posts.
#11: Yogscast on FTB (701, locked)
#10: Point of Rotarycraft (720)
#9: Mod/Item/Stuff Ideas (721, inactive for over a year)
......almost in the top 10.
but after those 3 it's a long slog to 800+ posts, then the next one has 900, and the rest are 1.2k+--and a few of them are pretty active (and the Microsoft threadnaught heh).
Doubt we'll ever catch up to Agrarian Skies lol (4k+ posts and still damn active)
So I've looked into Obsidian Portal a bit, and I'm a little leery. At least at the "Invite anyone who has a Youtube Channel to the thing so they can edit their page and only their page."
Because it doesn't work like that. If you're part of a campaign, you can edit anything (except Secret/GM Only stuff I believe). That said, if I do decide to swap to OP, then I'll likely have backups of all pages I work on in the GM only section, and never let anyone co-GM with me ever, along with carefully selecting who gets to join the "campaign."
.....on the other hand, if I had Ascendant, I could roll back changes......hmmmm...(to be clear, not asking for cash for Ascendant, just not sure if I want to add yet another subscription atm)...
Didn't think I had anything new for you guys, but apparently I forgot to plug the mini-challenges I wrote up a few days ago.
.....I'm also considering changing the nature of Nobles a bit--so they're actually useful. I could do a writeup, but it's basically This and This. Instead of a bunch of fat cats who are taking up space (hi, Dwarf Fortress), the Nobles are actually playing a purpose, whether it's reporting to you, or overseeing subjects they specifically know about.
ie Headmastering/teaching Magic at a School of [insert magic mod here] Magic (Hogwarts!)/College of Portal Magic (The Magic Colleges, I will admit, were/are inspired by Elder Scrolls' Oblivion's Colleges of Magic(s))/etc. Or a local Beekeeping Noble reporting to his settlement's Agricultural Council and his Beekeeping Rep in the Capital--the Capital Beekeeping Rep who reports directly to you, and serves on the Imperial/National/Royal/Capital Agricultural Council that helps keep all Agricultural activity in the Empire on track.
Or a Minecart Rep reporting to his rep on the Imperial Transportation Council about his little slice of the rails, grizzled Military Noble serving as an advisor in a Military Outlier (Though Officers would replace most Nobles in the Military heh--or are they the Military version of Nobles?), etc, etc, etc......
......geeze. and this was supposed to be a quick update before bed.
A couple things popped into my head at work today. Could have SWORN I had a long list of stuff for the RPG Mini-Challenge, but I can't for the life of me think of anything else atm. Like with everything else, suggestions/improvements are welcome.
Build a Quest setting for Adventurers.
Build an Inn (Healing) with a tavern (because all D20 campaigns start in a tavern, right? )
Build dungeon for adventurers
Leave some kind of treasure at the botom of the dungeon.
(Empire-wide or single Settlement)--for use with or without the Pokemob mod--or Pokemod?
Somewhere in the Empire must be:
Pokemon Colosseum/Stadium
Should have ample room for battling (may have Type Themage if desired)
Should have plenty of seating.
Colosseum/Stadium should have 4 rooms for Elite 4 and a Champion's Arena
Green Rooms/living quarters for the Elites/Champion?
Room of Succession
Must have PC, Healing Table (if using Pokemobs)--should be finely decorated, as this is where the former Champion takes the new Champion to formally pass down the title.
Each Settlement participating must have:
Pokemon Center
Have rooms for travelling trainers to stay in at night as part of their service?
Pokemon Mart
Suggestions:
Pokemon Gym (themed for a type)
Pokemon Stables (with provisions for specific types ie Grass, Fire, Water, Electric)
Electricity Generators powered by Electric Pokemon (for Electric types)
Pokemon Groomery (with provision for specific types)
Waste Management Facility (for Muks, Garbodors, et al)
I don't play Pokemobs, but I love Pokemon, so......considering putting together a Portal/Saint's Row mini-challenge or something. Something that doesn't take a lot of time put into it but still provides a decent bit of content to buiild heh.
Also something else that popped into my head:
A short, green-skinned race of creatures with an intense curiousity about the world around them. Unfortunately, their curiousiy tends to backfire on themselves and causes disasters everywhere they go. Kerbals have an extremely high death rate, rivalled only by their prodigious birth rates. They accomplish by trial and death toll what other races accomplish by trial and error--though it can't be denied that most Kerbals have the time of their lives when they inevitably die horribly. They are generally hated by most other races, and are occasionally called (incorrectly) "G'home Gnomes"
Pre-requisites (for all): None. They are the Eternally Starting Trio.
You'll notice the "Heroes" section in the Kerbal writeup. I'd like to do something similar with the other races, too. They'd basically be very famous examples of whatever race they are, and they can move to one of your Settlements once you accomplish their prerequisites (if any). Not something I've done yet, but something I'd like to do. Again, something I can tos in that doesn't take long but adds in a nice bit of gameplay.
I would like to say how much I love this. I played this in a GT based pack and it was awesome. I did establish a ton of my own quests having to do with creation and fun, like you had to be able to mass produce something to put it in an average persons house. I had some awesome fun with GC and missions to the moons and the crazy building infrastructure required to get a rocket (mission control, launch pad, rocket mover, production and research facilities).
I think I may publish my extension for this for any GT players. They add a ton of fun.
EDIT: With GT I find it best to skip right to the wood stage.

Man I wish I had time to learn Gregtech, but I really don't. Thanks for the reminder about Galacticraft, though. Magic mods have all kinds of new dimensions to explore--AFAIK GC is the only Tech mod that adds new dimensions. That said, it looks like this is high technology, and not something suitable for the early Tech boom, which is a shame.
I am gonna need to do some research into GC, because it does look really awesome.
Yeah, until you have spare time flowing form every pore, I would stay away from Gregtech. Much better than it used to be in some respects, but it will ALWAYS be a horrific grindfest of epic longness.

Jebediah Kerman

<3 Kerbal Space Program, I don't play it much anymore, but I have played it a ton. Here is an albumn of my 'Lathye Expedtion'. Also my Kerbals don't die, they may get stranded on a moon with not enough Fuel to return... but they LIVE!

that is sort of what i was suggesting, as far as allowing you to use one of my campaign slots. i know you would still be leery since you don't know me, but at the offer still stands. I am Ascendant and have multiple campaign slots available... no charge to you of course... so you can still keep backups and roll backs and whatevs.. i may drop a few suggestions in there,.. but not on any thing that others can see... no obligation to accept changes either.. just good ole' " Thanks for this awesome challenge" gift
I just had a thought. maybe someone can make a mod that add some achievements only. These achievements would be the steps neccessary to complete the stages of the challenge.. it would be a sort of in game check list..? not sure how difficult that would be i have like a -5d6 to my coding skill checks..
maybe add in a few things like... if you are underground and you have no helmet, then you gain mining fatigue and can't see your hunger/health bars.. and can't sleep.... just a few thoughts for those modders out there.

Depending on how you have it set, it can Blinding, Nausea, Mining Fatigue, and and Slow effects
Selecting gameMode=1 in config will enable an alternative ruleset, in which a player can venture up to 9 blocks below the surface with no ill effects. To venture more than 10 blocks below the surface, a helmet must be equipped. To venture more than 20 blocks, a chestpiece must also be equipped, for 30 blocks, leggings must be added, and for 40 or more blocks, a full armor set must be worn.
actually, now that I think of it, @Senseidragon is it possible to change the X-blocks below surface in an init file? Just a thought. Could let you change it to your heart's content lol.
@CarbonBasedGhost I'm pretty sure he's starting anew with the challenge making. If you go back a page or two there's a link for the download of the old one. The new one seems to be focusing more like a tech tree, which is great, but these things take a lot of time.

bleh.....3d of 4 days I work in a row, and a weekend day to boot.
While my brain is quite melted by the barrage of Christmas music where I work, I do have a silver lining for you guys:
I'm going to make up a seasonal challenge, based on the 12 days of Christmas song.
basically all the birds will be chickens (or can be subsituted with other Livestock/dogs/cats/horses/etc if you want).
I have a few more things to work out, but the Partridge in a Pear Tree will be a Chicken trapped in a tree with leaf blocks all around it to keep it inside. If you've got a Pear Tree due to mods, kudos
