There is a mod called refined relocation that integrates nicely with Jabba. They add an upgraded barrel called the sorting barrel which you can get by crafting a Jabba barrel with a gold ingot in each corner, or applying a sorting upgrade directly to the barrel like any other Jabba upgrade. Sorting barrels can interact with wider refined relocation systems. If you have a sorting chest connected to a line of sorting barrels, add an item to that chest and if it would fit better inside any of the connected barrels it automagically ends up inside the right barrel. I really like this because it removes the need to have a maze of pipes by your barrels. This made it really straightforward to add a bunch of storage busses on my sorting barrels when I eventually set up my AE system.

I still love FZ though, I like using it a lot and I think it has one of the most charming ore processing processes. One reason to keep FZ barrels around even if you are using Jabba for all of your storage needs is that the Lacerator can act on items inside the FZ barrels.

What I'm saying is that these two results differ:

The left is different factorization barrels.
The right is what you get if you were to retexture JABBA barrels. All the same.

I agree that FZ is altogether a bit obsolete, but my modpack tries to balance out Vanilla gameplay with modded gameplay, and adding all those other mods that improve upon FZ hurts this balance too much imo. That's my main reason to use FZ.

The real question here is whether I should use MineTweaker to disable FZ Barrels and introduce JABBA, but this thread generally has given me the feeling I shouldn't. If you disagree, I'm still open for more replies, though. I'm always glad to hear what the community has to say.

I believe that FZ is the better choice if you want to balance out with vanilla gameplay, I'm pretty sure the mod is made to be like that. To me JABBA is completely balanced around modded gameplay, so if the people that are playing with the modpack are in favor of a more "vanilla-like" flavor, JABBA may be a bit to easy.

Are you adopting teleportation of itens into the modpack?

This is a good a very valid point. If you are looking for a barrel mod install better barrels or JABBA not factorization as factorization adds a ton of stuff (And let's be honest who legitimately uses the things in factorization and cannot go without them.)

One thing I prefer Factorization Barrels over JABBA is that the barrel texture reflects the wood/planks you've made them from. That's quite clever, and lets you do more themed builds. I do miss that when using just JABBA.
I love that so much.

Given you are trying to "balance Vanilla vs modded play", here's a few points.

Factorization adds much more content than just barrels. JABBA is mostly just barrels.

Beware that JABBA's dollys can move blocks other than barrels, like monster spawners.

JABBA barrels are much more automation friendly, with the hopper faces for auto-dispensing, redstone faces for detecting when they are full, and the void upgrade to void new items when full to prevent backing up your automated systems.

If you are trying to keep to vanilla, you may prefer the Factorization barrels because they have many fewer features. Then I would also take a critical look at the other items in Factorization (routers, yet another power system) and ask if you shouldn't just find a simple barrel only mod instead.

As I stated earlier, I am keeping FZ in for other reasons. In the end, I could always utilize MineTweaker to disable FZ barrels and force people to use JABBA. Similarly, I could disable FZ's routers. For now, I choose to keep them in, because leaving them out would only make things harder, not impossible, which is not what I'm going for.

I'd immediatly pick JABBA if JABBA added a way to add a different texture to the barrels, perhaps somewhat like how Carpenter's Blocks do it. you add a carpenter upgrade to the barrel, and if you shift-right click the barrel with a block, the barrel will take that texture

Pretty sure the routers got removed in the 1.7 update

Noted. It just doesn't really make much of a difference towards my choice to use the mod for more than just barrels.
