Because the nature of a modpack means there is no clearly superior choice

Half the glass's capacity for storing liquids has been occupied by some unknown substance, presumably liquid water.

Because different things often have different benifits and trade-offs. For example, vanilla MC is great for playing on Hypixel's server without having to wait for 50+ mods to load, but FTB has many more things that vanilla.
