Trying to plant Pam's Harvestcraft rice, InfiTech modpack, Minecraft 1.7.10, no Hunger Overhaul mod installed. I have the same problem that's been reported with the Rice, it pops out of the ground when planted normally, and it refuses to be planted according to the wiki directions (in a water block with dirt below the water). Has anyone ever figured out how to plant rice? Is it permanently bugged across all modpacks?

I was playing Space Astronomy, and had to take the 'grown rice' (which I got from a Water Garden) and plant that using the 'water block with dirt below it'. I might have had to put a temporary block on the shore to plant 'against' (target the shore block when right-clicking). I can't remember exactly, and my world for that modpack got borked by a squid mis-spawning, so I can't check it. Definitely had to be the 'grown rice', though.

I don't think they literally mean a water block with dirt under it. Till the dirt and then right click on that tilled dirt with a shovel, it should "indent" and allow you to put water in it. That's how it works in Infinity.

I think water pads may be an Agricraft thing - that's exactly the way it worked in Bee Happy, though, so one of those two methods should do it for you, @asb3pe .

Yeah, thanks, but that doesn't work in InfiTech, probably because there's no Agricraft. I think I'm screwed, altho I have not tried using a "full plant". The way I obtained my intial Rice is using the Market block and paid an emerald for one Rice Seed (which apparently is useless). I'll have to find a Water Garden and try that method as my last resort. Thanks for the advice. Luckily food is not a big priority, there's no hunger mods in the pack, I just enjoy making all the crops and having all the foods. I was extremely disappointed when I realized there are zero Maple Trees in the world but the Market block at least solved that problem for me.

Hah - I'm the same way! Tip for that: When you find Gardens, right-click them. This harvests the garden itself. Plant it somewhere convenient with a few blocks of space around. For Water Gardens, you do need to do the temporary 'shore block' to put them on a water source. The Gardens will spread, and you can break the new ones for an assortment of grown crops.

Note: The 'Textile Garden' only gives Cotton, so you're just as far ahead if you break those. Mushroom Gardens give both Vanilla mushrooms and the Pam'sCraft mushrooms. The Water Gardens actually give assorted water-life like fish and stuff, along with the water-grown plants. Those two are worth keeping around after you've gotten your starter crops from them.

Oh yeah, I would agree it's a great mod, one of the best... except for Hungry Nodes. Just by the inclusion of that one "feature", the mod has ruined so many play-thrus of mine that I'm beginning to lose track. SSP? Fine, no problem, that's why we use stuff like Aroma Backup... but when you're playing on a server and you're exploring the world only to suddenly realize you're in the death-grip of a Hungry Node... GFY. That is all.

No you don't feel the pain, not unless you are playing the best mod and best modpack in all of modded Minecraft... which would be Jason McRay's "InfiTech2" modpack with BloodAsp's "GregTech 5 Unofficial" wonderful updating of the great GregTech mod. In this pack, until you truly reach "endgame", you have no enderpearls in mass quantity where you can carry around a stack or two ('just in case I walk into a Hungry Node"), and no glider to make the Hungry Node ejection seat survivable.

Oh, and while I was transitioning from "going up" to "going down", I tried to aim for a small little pond nearby, hoping it would save me. But no... somehow in my milliseconds of panic, I ended up landing right smack dab on the block where the Hungry Node is... meaning even if I can get back to my gravestone, there's no way I'm ever getting my stuff back.

But they will not pull the blocks or other enties (players) into them. But, the hungry nodes do have a purpose. Same as those ugly meteors used bye AE2. So in my game they stay.

EDIT: And because it has to be said, who thought that putting essential items for a mod in the dead center of a chunk-sized sphere of Obsidian-level material would make people want to use their equipment? Or was it more 'Hey, we've gotten them all hooked on the ME-system, let's mess with them.'

Can anyone else confirm that spilling water on the node will destroy it? I've never heard that before. You've given me hope that I might actually be able to "rescue" my graves (I've walked into two different Hungry Nodes in this world so I have two graves I cannot access now).

I fear my hope is a false hope however, will await confirmation from others. Thanks tho.

One other question I have about Hungry Nodes... after walking into the first one and dying, I've been noticing single blocks scattered around the world... just lying atop the ground... a cobblestone here, a dirt block there... but here's the thing - these blocks are literally hundreds of blocks from the Hungry Node... so if they were ejected from the Node somehow, wow - what is the maximum distance a Hungry Node can eject blocks?

Anything above a certain mining level will not get eaten. There's more info in the FTB Wiki article on Aura Nodes. Wiki also says that nodes can be destroyed by 'punching with an empty hand', if you want to YOLO it.

Hungry nodes indeed cannot break obsidian or anything similarly hard (not sure if it looks at mining level, hardness, or blast resistance, but it's one of those) or anything behind such a material. Obsidian will not block the gravitational effect, so if you box in the node, it'll still try to suck you in, but it will not break blocks or be able to pull you through the obsidian.

You may not be able to get close enough to the node to place obsidian against it without getting dangerously close. However, you should be able to set up an obsidian wall that the node can pull you up against (but not through), and from there you can set up another such wall closer to the node, and so on and so forth until the node itself is within arm's reach.

Or just grab a personal teleporter of some variety (the EnderIO Staff of Traveling works well), dump your inventory in a chest somewhere, and go for it.

This is what I do. Almost concentric circles, and preferably with some sort of escape plan, such as....
