You could also replace the redstone engine with an autarchic gate.

I'd still say that is uglier than liquiducts and a lever. But a whole lot less ugly than a massive redstone engine.

If only there was a way to craft a liquiduct that had a redstone lever built into it, call it a liquiduct value, make it look similar to this:

And call it a day. That would be optimal.

Well, liquiducts generate pressure, so it wouldn't be a simple value (iron pipe is closer to it). RP2 liquid pipes seem a lot better than liquiduct, but why they are using weird pressure unit. Bar is simpler and easier to think about, specially if world is made from one meter sized blocks, for example you need 1 bar to move water 10 meters up.

Why are the mods for FtB moving away from reasonable progression to late game system?

I've been playing the MindCrack pack.

For example, the quarry requires titanium to build, which can only be gotten by use of an expensive machine and an ore (bauxite) that does not seem to be available on most maps.
(I have one single player where I found half a stack, another single player with none and a private server with none.)

Farms were reasonably priced so they can't just be made off the bat and with some work could be self sustaining.
Now, they are going to be tougher to build and not self sustaining at all.

Why can't they go to a tiered system?
Mining - manual, miner, turtle, quarry
Farms - manual, require supplies, self supplies

Sure, make end teir things more expensive... but make it buildable. I can't find Bauxite or anything saying where to find Bauxite.
Maybe it's because I'm just spoiled by making a wood pick to get stone, stone pick to get iron, iron pick to get diamond... I just expect tiered steps.

My apologies if it sounds a bit 'ranty'... and it sort of is.
I feel slighted since I haven't managed to get one of the automated farms going and now the price is going up... for less automation.

Yeah, I was thinking an inline pump, but that valve has the look that I think would look excellent for the system.

Most recipe changes are by gregtech. A couple mods make a change themselves to a more difficult recipe option used by the mindcrack pack. The pack is controlled by the players on the Mindcrack server, which is a group that generally likes difficulty -- although it seems most have grown to dislike gregtech 'hard' mode.

Bauxite can be found in certain biomes -- plains, forest. This page may help you: http://wiki.industrial-craft.net/index.php?title=IndustrialCraft-Addons:GregTech-Addon#World_Gen
You have to do some additional searches to see which extra biomes the above ores can spawn in. If you want to know why you can't find it in some worlds check your biome and if needed mine in a different area.

There are farm automation options outside of forestry that are fully automated. Simple: Thaumcraft Golems, steves carts. More Complex: Turtles, redpower.
Golems are gated behind research -- which should only take a couple hours and a few chests of resources, but everything else you can get early in a world.

I've been playing the MindCrack pack.

It is not "the mods of FTB" that are moving towards a late-game system. It is only the Mindcrack pack that is configured as such because of the specific wishes of the Mindcrack server team (they make let's play videos on youtube and the pack is made specifically for them). What you call "reasonable progression", other people might call "too easy".

But, there are many packs in FTB that are not configured with such a lenghty progression. Try the Direwolf20 pack, for example. It's much more focused on instant fun and cool stuff.

I'd consider Mindcrack to be tiered, but you just need a bit of a startup. I mean you have the Pulverizer-> Grinder, Turtles-> Quarry, and SC Farms->...weell...SC Farms

1. How many fermenters can a single forestry multiblock farm supply? (Assuming just standard apple oak trees and water in the fermenters)
2. How many stills for making biofuel could a single fermenter supply?
3. How many HP36 boilers would a single still supply?

I think I saw a thread regarding these exact numbers posted here a few weeks back, but I cannot seem to dig it back up...

1. Don't know.
2. With water and mulch/compost: ~4.5, for fertilizer multiply by 7/6, for apple juice/liquid honey multiply by 1.5
3. 1.212121...

How do I automatically put scrap into my mass fabricator?

http://imgur.com/EDhGSyo (Hopper is for aesthetics)

I've tried buildcraft pipes going into the bottom. I've also tried an RP2 relay with pneumatic pipes going into the bottom, neither worked.

Thanks

EDIT: Nevermind, relay was the wrong way round.

Try the pneumatic tubes again with a retriever.

With the multifarm, are there trees (without going into breeding) that have a higher chance of dropping saplings? (in the twilight forest maybe?)

Well, you could go into a test world and spawn yourself all the saplings you can think of. Then throw them in a treealyzer (if it can't be treealyzed, chances are the farm won't accept it).

And in the readout you can see an estimation of the amount of saplings you will get.

You need a bee frame is all. That it is a item you can craft normally then put in the alter and magic it up.

Running 2 boilers full time with a large multifarm has dug into my dirt reserves.

Whats the best way to source lots of dirt. Quarries get some but not enough. I was looking into terraforming, is there one that can fill in quarries with dirt?

Perhaps easier, you can run a wheat farm, and either make plantballs and macerate them into dirt, or use a moistener to make mycelium out of seeds and turn that into dirt.
