I'm pretty sure the starter bees are part of a quest reward. But I haven't played that map in years. As for an active thread about it I haven't seen one.
I can't see any quests that I can do without bees.

Also, does anyone remember how to get past the coal problem? *Edit* Ah, how did I not spot the Philosopher's Stone recipe?

Also, does anyone remember how to get past the coal problem? To make a mass fabricator I need carbon plates which need coal, and I haven't seen that as a quest reward yet. Hm, do Zombie Pigmen drop coal maybe?

You can actually get almost all of the items in the game in FTB Insanity without touching bees at all. You need the philosopher's stone to create some of them (and more advanced EE2 blocks (i.e. the transmutation table) to duplicate items once you've gotten your first one), quest rewards for many of them, and clever hidden recipes in some of the mods for most of the rest.

Keep in mind, I haven't touched that map in a very long time, and never actually went through all of it when I did. There are some bee quests toward the end, but AFAIK you don't need bees until you get to those quests. There are other, easier ways to get almost everything.

Are there any 1.6+ replica modpacks of popular 1.2 packs (such as Tekkit/Technic, or the FTB challenge packs - even if it's just in a normal world)
I'd love to play one of those again. But certain features from 1.4+ (such as dragable crafting recipes) are impossible (near enough) to play without.
I say 1.6+ because 1.4 didn't have ProjectE, and EE3 was very primitive (but better than it was last I used it - in FTB Horizons 2). Obviously, RedPower disappeared off the face of the earth. Both BluePower and ProjectRed are aiming at replicating the mod, however, none of them have all the features (unless I am misinformed).

Obviously, I don't mind certain differences, such as having to use OpenComputers and ProjectRed to get the same effect as having RedPower. Or the obvious changes, such as MJ -> RF.
But it would be nice to see some of the older things which were "the bees knees" in a newer MC version; such as the old forestry farms.

I know there's a mod somewhere that's working on basically being a porting layer between 1.2 (I think, I'm not 100% sure) mods and at least MC 1.7.10. Aah, found it! Tis called Intermediary, and works between 1.2.5 mods and MC 1.7.10. Though, the last reported build was on 19 March 2015, so development is...unknown. Probably have to ask FyberOptic himself about that.

For the MFR Sewer block, are there any tips for how to put a liquid filter inline somewhere? I'm using the Sewers under a cow/sheep pasture, and most of the time they work fine, sending the liquid brown stuff down attached pipes to a MFR Composter. But they also collect XP, and every so often I have to manually flush the pipes because they have a miniscule amount of green goop clogging up the works.

I've tried attaching two pipes to each Sewer block, but they happily send manure down both pipes. I've tried Liquiducts, and added a bucket of brown stuff to the Servo whitelist filter, but that doesn't seem to work. I routed the liquid via EnderTank, but that just means I get a tank of green liquid once in a while, which also blocks the manure collection.

Any suggestions? I don't really care about the XP, but if it's easy enough to collect I'll funnel it to a drum or something.

Do you have access to the ender io conduits? The upper tier conduits can support multiple fluids in the same conduit. Then just use filters at the destination to sort out the liquids.

That's a great tip, thanks! I have been using the EnderIO pressurized conduit around the base, didn't realize it was so easy to set a filter;

Right-clicking a basic or Pressurized Fluid Conduit with a filled fluid container (e.g. a Bucket) will lock the conduit to only accept this type of fluid.

I can make some Ender Conduit if needed, but I'll try a simple pipe network first just to extract the XP juice, and another for the liquid brown, send each to an EnderTank.

If you don't have access to EnderIO, try gating each liquid through a container that's connected right next to the Sewer. The less distance a fluid has to travel to find a destination, the more likely it will be sent straight there. Also, since you mentioned servos, try upgrading to a higher tier of pipe and servo, the faster pipes will move liquids around faster, there is also ender fluid conduits if I'm not mistaken that teleport fluids instantaneously.

Cheers ...

Why does the last thing you're waiting for always take forever?

I've finally got my extractor running (slowly) and i'm grinding up iron ore just to get the tungsten I need to make a Gas Turbine.

Need 8, have 7. The last one is taking aaaaages.

MFR has its own Liquid Router for precisely that purpose. Also for separating the liquid meat and the pink slime that the Slaughterhouse produces.

Alternatively, you could have two separate tanks (or a tank and a fluid trash can), and filter your Fluiducts or EnderIO conduits to only push one liquid into each tank. Filter the output of the pipes, rather than the input, in other words.

I don't think there's a way to make the sewer not collect any particular type of liquid, unless there's a really obvious setting in its GUI that we've both missed.

Apiarist's Pipes (propolis) are the current challenge that I can't see a way around.
Ah. Yeah, apiarist pipes are bee items; most of the bee items need... well... bees.

AFAIK, there was no way to make bees out of nothing back in those days (as opposed to the existence of Ex Nihilo's scented hives now); you'll probably have to get your first bees from the hives stashed in the starting platform. Unless there's some clever trick I'm not aware of, of course.
