Though I agree with you, I can also understand that it can be quite useful for computers running PotatoOS that want this challenge. Because it is a challenge from start to end. From the cobble, to the absence of quarries, fear of heights and so on.

Honestly, I'd much rather see 1.9 development, but there aren't enough mods for a pack (I think) nor do I see a stable, finished 1.9 version to work with. Besides this, I was hoping for an update on Departed, but AoA hasn't been updated yet. This is all free content from people with good will, that have a personal life elsewhere (hard to believe sometimes, given the awesomeness they come up with) and see this as a hobby. You get what you pay for.

There are literally hundreds of packs across FTB/Curse, Technic and ATlauncher. Go build and pay no attention to the men behind the curtain.

You can't please, nor be pleased by everyone. What would be of the world if we all liked yellow?

What is the big attraction with this "skyblock" concept? Why is it so popular that we need an entire new modpack for it?

I guess this is really more just me stating my opinion rather than asking a simple question. Because the simple answer is, there's other packs to play besides skyblock.

But, it's the newest pack and thus it becomes the instant new favorite modpack on servers... ugh.

In my opinion, when you remove the overworld from the game, you remove so much good stuff - from nice scenery to look at, to being able to ride a horse around to discover something new. I've been awaiting a fresh release from FTB, something exciting to get me back to playing the game with my friends on their server, but this was not exactly it. It certainly doesn't help that I fired up the pack and was immediately clueless about what I should do, and if I move more than a few blocks I fall to my death. LOL What is this crap? haha
its that satisfaction that you created what ever you wanted and the only thing you started with is 1 sapling, well in infinity expert skyblock its a little more than that but very minimal. I personally enjoy playing skyblock packs more than regular, to each their own tho :)

The draw to Skyblock is mostly twofold.

First, it is easier on computer resources, since it doesn't need to load the entire Overworld. This allows people with normally subpar computers to play a pack that would otherwise be out of reach.

Second, the engineering challenge of needing to automate literally everything is enticing. Knowing that you have to place almost every block that exists in the world also appeals to some

File it under "Different strokes for different folks". If it's not up your alley, feel free to play any of the other hundreds of packs, or even try your hand at designing your own.

... Ohhhh that would explain a lot.

Hm. So it should work if no one's on the server at all? Are there any other ways of faking player presence?

EDIT: Life imbuer from botania, apparently.
If the server is completely empty, or if all players are in other dimensions, or if any player is within 128 blocks of your spawners, it should work fine.

As far as I'm aware, there is no way to keep mobs from despawning in this way other than the workarounds mentioned above, nametags, and MFR's jailor safari nets. The Life Imbuer (and Cursed Earth, RotaryCraft's spawner controller, etc.) simply causes vanilla spawners to run when there are no players within 16 blocks, when the spawner would ordinarily shut down. It has no effect on when those mobs despawn.

What's the point of Botania bees? The fact they polinate Mystical flowers and spread them is the only thing I can see being useful. Am I missing anything?

Fair enough, I know I have no right to complain, this was just a better location for me to vent than starting an entirely new thread to do so. :)
I'll give it the old "college try" and sure hope I can find some enjoyment in the modpack quickly. The thought of having nothing to "go off and explore" is kind of painful, almost like being in a prison or something. LOL

I'm playing Infinity Evolved Skyblock, and for some reason I just can't seem to get bees to produce ANYTHING. I have a queen in an apiary, with a choc frame, impregnated frame, and untreated frame, and every time her lifespan ends, all I get are drones. I have the apiary on a 5x5 platform of grass, covered in poppies and dandelions. The GUI doesn't say I'm doing anything wrong, so I have no idea what to do. Would it have anything to do with the biome? 'cause I don't think there's any way to change the biome in this modpack, considering no matter where I am in the overworld the biome is always "deep ocean."

Update: Well, guess I just had to be patient and persistent. FINALLY one of my queens produced a comb.

Oh, and if anyone knows how the hell scented artificial hives work in this modpack, that would be nice too. 90% of the time it just reverts to an artificial hive, and for some reason the few times it hasn't, it was an unusual hive. Even though I had it surrounded by stone and unable to see the sky, and there were no flowers AT ALL within its vicinity.

Either you're into the Expert mode changes, or I advice against. Might as well try Agrarian Skies 1/2, instead. And if you're into exploration, I recommend Expedition. Very exploration friendly, as all chests have their loot tables heavily boosted.

If you are after combs remove the chocolate frame. It causes the queen to die earlier and thus produce less combs. Combs are produced through out the queens life. The drones and princess are only produced when the queen dies.

I can't decide if I want to use a texture pack or not, should I use soartex or should I just use the default minecraft textures? I honestly cannot decide for myself.

People like grinding cobble?

As far as modded play goes I think it has everything to do with ex nilio. It trivializes material acquisition but requires automation. When you set it up you become free to construct whatever machines you please, the lack of any terrain means unlimited space and no terraforming. However building vertically is a challenge.

Personally I'm in your boat, I don't get the appeal either. You grind cobblestone for an hour or so sift for another hour then you end up in a slow creative mode once everything is automated.
It's boring amd lack a lot of interesting aspects of the game.

Oh, right.
Do you happen to know anything about scented artificial hives? Like 90% of the time they won't work for me. And when they do work the result is not at all expected or sensible.

Ahhh! So there is a use for longer lives. I was under the impression that a bee was guaranteed to produce a set number of stuff in each life cycle. Hence why people chose shorter life spans.

Well, here is how I see it, its a change of pace from normal modded minecraft, you have to think differently on material acquisition and building management.

Yeah looking into it their products don't seem that great, however it's worth noting that Dreaming bees possess a unique effect similar to a pure daisy. They'll turn logs to living wood, stone to living rock, and living wood to dreamed. Naturally as a bee their range is much larger than the directly adjacent the daisy needs.

Wait... it turns livingwood in to dreamwood? That's kinda neat.

So, does anyone know how scented artificial hives work in FTB Infinity Evolved Skyblock? I can never seem to get them to work.

Also, if it's the biome that's the problem, then how can I find the biome for the type of bee I want without actually having that type of bee first?
