I can describe ecchi with one gifI'm not into ecchi, i went to a friend once and he wanted us to look at that. Only saw first 2 episodes. I can say it was umm... interesting -_-
What did he show you? Also, lord bless your soul for being exposed to ecchi as your first anime experience...Note: I don't watch anime and i had no idea he was gonna show THAT one.
Yeah, but still not something I think people would want their boss to see on their screensAlso i can't call that NSFW Striking. Erotic, yes. NSFW, neh.
The bathtub groping scene /)_-What did he show you? Also, lord bless your soul for being exposed to ecchi as your first anime experience...
Fair enoughYeah, but still not something I think people would want their boss to see on their screens
I'm so sorryThe bathtub groping scene /)_-
Not particularly, often even the best mangakas have to include fan service to even be considered for publishing. I've found plenty of ecchi series with deep and absorbing plots. There is only one reason to watch an ecchi, and that is if you want to jack off, even then, watching an ecchi for any plot is like looking for a needle in a haystack, sure, it may be there, but I'm not gonna damn well try to find it.
No, you misunderstand, ecchi to the point of topless women or equivalent in every episode (a la dxd) is not to the point where fan service is required, and in most cases it worsens the plot rather than improving it. Although I will give dxd a point here in that its entire plot is based around fan service making it kinda make senseNot particularly, often even the best mangakas have to include fan service to even be considered for publishing. I think you managed to miss my point entirely...No, you misunderstand, ecchi to the point of topless women or equivalent in every episode (a la dxd) is not to the point where fan service is required, and in most cases it worsens the plot rather than improving it. I didn't, there are animes where fanservice and good plot coexist, many of them. There are things that are kinda ecchi where there is good plot. But I don't think you find good plot in fully ecchi animeI think you managed to miss my point entirely...

I would disagree.Ecchi is used to categorise any series with fanservice in it.
That entire series is amazingly f***ed up.For a taster of the stuff I'm into, hands down one of my favourite scenes, ever, from an anime.
And yeah, gore warning, if the thumbnail ain't enough
http://mangafox.me/manga/tengen_toppa_gurren_lagann/I would disagree.
For example, Gurren Legan has a fair bit of fanservice in it, it is not an ecchi. Ecchi is better described as softcore hentai in my eyes
The thing I love about it though, is that the whole twisted side of it is woven into the storyline. The brutality, the darkness, the gore, they're not just in there for sadistic voyeurism. They're in there for a reason. Like Hellsing Ultimate, and also to a certain extent like the Witcher games, it presents you with the question of 'What does it mean to be a human, and what does it mean to be a monster?", without ever giving you a clear cut answer. That entire series is amazingly f***ed up.
Yeah, I love the transformation the main character's psyche goes through. Easily one of my top 10 protagonists and amazing character arc.The thing I love about it though, is that the whole twisted side of it is woven into the storyline. I love Ishida Sui for making it, it's easily become one of my favourite series.

Check the tags.
There are various ranges of ecchi, from a couple of fanservice scenes to full on softcore.
Also, in ecchi almost every character is shown in a sexual way. In most other anime where fanservice is used there is a dedicated character for the purpose of protecting the other characters from being sexualizedhttps://hummingbird.me/anime/tengen-toppa-gurren-lagann

Ecchi in Japanese literally means sex, can't get more literal then that and commonly refers to animated porn. The western use is slightly different referring to softcore hentai, at least in my point of view.
A better description is ecchi is perverted in the sense that the character is very clearly being used as a sex icon/object whereas fanservice is more just showing a character off in a sexual way.
