Must be utilizing a cart transportation system for at-least one of your automated systems (e.g. transporting wood from your treefarm to your AE system). They say time is money, so you need to use HS tracks!
Must be utilizing a cart energy transportation system for at-least one of your automated systems. (e.g. MFR farms). They say a different thing for Energy! They say the more time you take, the more money is made, so be sure to send your energy cart through a ROLLERCOASTER OF DOOM!
Sterling Engines are sooo out of date. Constantly keep 3 Combustion Engines running (with not necessarily oil).
[not necessarily solely Buildcraft, but] Keep a MFR Laser Drill running.

Have a Mass Fabricator decently running, with all the other machines necessary to start to reproduce Diamonds, or any other valuable material.
Have (x2) Induction Furnace(s).
Have a MFSU to store that delicious power, with necessary Transformers.
Have all your overclockable machines at-least overclocked with three Overclocker upgrades.
Walking is for lazy peeps. Make a Teleporter from your base to at-least a different destination.
