Pack Code:
thermalp

Description:
Thermal Progression is a modpack based on the idea that modded Minecraft should have an "end game" and tiers that you must achieve in between. No longer can you go mining once to already being able to set up all of your best machines. Using custom recipes many mods now depend on Thermal Expansion to be able to get started. The better devices will require more expensive and higher tier recipes.

If you need a break from all the tech, then Thermal Progression contains a handful of magic mods that interconnect and may help you on your journey to the top tier without needing any tech to advance in.

This pack does not support removing mods due to the large amount of changed recipes (Exception being BoP). Adding mods may break progression, do so at your own will. Also, I highly recommend adding fastcraft by player for a smoother experience.

I'm going to try it out.

Hunger Overhaul is mainly just used for the changed food values no crop growth changes and Spice of Life is pretty similar to Crash Landing's.

New update in the works 1.1.0, here is the current changelog as of now:
- Updating mods to newer versions
- Adding new mods:
  • Gravestone Mod (I wanted a mod to encourage adventuring without giving progression breaking rewards)
  • Open Modular Turrets (With all the mobs around figured a way to keep them at bay was needed)
  • Steve's Addons (Small mod to make copying SFM programs possible)
  • HQM (Could help explain the progression better than I can now)
- Config/Script Changes:
  • Recipes to convert basalt between Artifice and Proj. Red variants since volcanoes are disabled
  • Recipes to convert marble between Chisel and Artifice variants (Proj. Red version can already be acquired with the chisel)
As a result of adding HQM I will be adding quests to explain the progression and help you along the way. Hopefully this will eventually evolve into more. With my college semester having just ended I will be having a bit more free time to work on the pack.

I will keep you updated as I get to work getting this ready for you all. Expect a full changelog at release and I will try my hardest to make sure a world reset is not necessary, but if you are already playing and want new stuff don't explore too far.

And for those of you who are like me and cannot use default/Soartex textures because it hurts your eyes/gives you a headache. Then here's a download to an almost complete Sphax pack (64x). I use 64x because I know a lot of people won't be able to use 128x, and not many mod patches have 32x support.
Also, there are some mods that do not have Sphax support yet (e.g. Forbidden Magic) and some patches which are not updated to the latest release (e.g. Random Things).

Alright, time to give my first 2 hours of experience review (I will play more, I really like this pack :))
First off, the negatives:
Artifice, 2 issues with this mod:
1) Artifice's ores >.> I like how you don't have all the different copper/tin ores +1 for that. But artifice ores drop the forestry version (so Artifice copper drops Forestry copper)
2) It needs a lowered spawn rate, in 10-20 minutes of game time, cobble is a really nice thing to get. But when all you find is the artifice stuff (which cannot be used for furnaces/stone tools), it's a little annoying.

The hunger mods:
Hunger Overhaul is one of my favourite mods out there, I won't deny that. But Spice of Life? Why? I understand you want the pack to be a challenge, but SoL doesn't really fit the pack at all.
Which moves me on to my first bug. Mushroom stew! This food is a god send in this pack because it is so broken :D Mushroom stew does not get affected by Hunger Overhaul, and when you eat it SoL doesn't recognize you have eaten any food.
Also, while we are on about food, let's talk about seeds. For Botania you need vanilla seeds (wheat, melon, pumpkin) to make stuff in a petal apothecary (I am using Botania to get gunpowder, I will come on to why in a minute) and after breaking what cannot be less than 100 grass, not 1 seed dropped. Luckily I found a few pumpkins, but if this is unintended, it should probably be fixed.

Mobs:
I usually play on peaceful, I do not like mobs. But I am playing with mobs roaming about, and there is a distinct lack of creepers (which I need for gunpowder, which I need for TNT, so I can get compressed iron). There are way too many special mobs/mob farm mobs, and they really don't add anything to the game than make it annoying. Especially early game when the only armour you can get is leather or wood.

Now the negatives are out of the way, on to the positives.
You balance early game REALLY well. Smeltery ore doubling is removed, which I think is nice, seeing as you have the progression going on (personally I would make it so you get 1.5/1.25 return on ore, just to give you the incentive to use it, seeing as it costs lava to make). And seeing as the vanilla tools are enabled, although useless, is nice because it means you don't need gravel to start mining. (starting in a dark oak forest, for mushroom stew, made early game pretty easy).

There is a nice balance, while still forcing focus. A lot of packs say here are the options to do something, you decide how you want to balance the game. Whereas you focus on a certain progression, and make it so that it would be hard to get around that progression line, unless you are lucky with villages maybe.

The mods in the pack. Even though you don't have access to all the mods from the get go, the mod list looks very healthy, and looking through all the scripts shows that you have done some major balancing (+1 for using my Steve's Factory Manager script ;))

Overall a good pack, so far, with a few mods that need to be removed/tweaked. Definitely worth a play, especially if you want a "gregtech-esc" RF pack (I do not like EU as a power system, and this pack gives an 'easy mode gregtech' sorta feel to it)

First off, thanks for the feedback glad to hear you're enjoying it so far. Now to address the comments:
  1. I know about the artifice ore thing and it is strange to say the least, sometimes it gives thermal foundation ores sometimes forestry, not sure if there is a simple fix quite yet.
  2. I could look into lowering the limestone rate I agree it can be a little overpowering.
  3. I chose to add Spice of Life mainly because what other reason is there for having 100s of food options if all you need to do is find one that is easy to produce and never look at the rest.
  4. The infamous mushroom stew. I noticed the same bug, it is supposed to be recognized by spice of life and hunger overhaul, but I believe another mod is overwriting it. My guess is it might have to do with MFR changing it to be a place-able liquid or possibly something else.
  5. The seed issue is actually a feature from hunger overhaul. If you want seeds, break harvestcraft gardens and put the crop into a crafting screen to get the seed. Wheat can be acquired from a grass garden found in plain's/ plains-like biomes.
  6. Lastly, the mob issue. While playing the pack myself I noticed I would never reach mob cap. At most, I would only ever get about 80 hostile mobs (the cap is 150 I think). One of the main mobs hogging the cap was lava monsters, but in the coming update I will probably drastically lower their spawn rate.
In response to the positives:
  1. I felt that by taking ore doubling away from the smeltery, it would encourage people to actually want to advance to the tech age. Most people would just automate smelteries to be used as ore doubling, but I wanted people to try and actually do something different.
  2. The whole goal of the pack was to have people on a forced chain to progress, but after a certain point they are more free to branch out. I mean sure a village chest may contain some steel, but your going to want more than a few ingots ;)
  3. Hehe I used a few of the Phoenix configs as a starting point actually! Then a proceeded to alter a few of them a bit to fit my pack, and then sepeartely added quite a few of my own changes.
  4. I realize not everyone likes not having access to every mod at once, but I didn't want to just throw together yet another kitchen sink pack. Originally, it started as a pack I could play that would last me more than a week, but I think its safe to say it has now evolved into more of a project I like to work on.
  5. Shh if people see RF version of gregtech they will get scared ;)
Looking back, this took me way too long to type...
