You said "Expert-Mode-Esque" and you weren't kidding! It felt deja vu as I discovered the changes. It seems like the name of the pack no longer fits, because there was a lot I wanted to do but couldn't because of the altered recipes :). I'm not opposed to the idea of expert mode (I played it for 6 weeks at least), but it's not what I was expecting or looking for. I'm giving it a go to see how it feels when mixed with sky block and Project E.

Here are a few notes:
  • Charcoal (8 EMC) pulverizes into pulverized charcoal (16 EMC).
  • There's no recipe for pyrotheum or cryotheum, perhaps because there's no electrotine (which I think is actually electroline).
  • Please add EMC values for Ex Nihilo dust and Ex Astris limestone.
  • Why remove EMC values for all the machines?
  • Why no EMC value for refined iron (but there is for Tinkers' steel)?
Thanks for noticing these "bugs", which they are. I will work right away to get these fixed. I have a few ideas of how to fix them :) The next update should have this and more fixed.

Here are some more uncraftable items:
  • IC2 hammer (so any IC2 machines)
  • Ender IO SAG mill, alloy smelter, conduits other than redstone
  • Buildcraft assembly table

I just gave the FTB team my HOTFIX for this update that fixes almost everything you told me about. I also gave a bunch of other items that didn't have EMC values, EMC and changed some recipes.

This version is playing very smoothly, nice job, despite the length of the following list!
  • can't make electrical steel, the powdered coal won't go in (tested with IC2, Ender IO, Thermal Foundation versions)
  • consider adding the adding AutoPackager mod
  • chance cubes in loot bags give you too much easy EMC?
  • too much EMC in Uranium 238? I went from struggling to millions when I started processing uranium
Items without EMC in roughly what I think is order of importance:
  • Ex Nihilo dust, crushed netherrack, crushed end stone (intentional?)
  • TE impulse itemducts, fluctuating itemducts
  • TE machines: pulverizer, redstone furnace, induction smelter, magma crucible, probably others
  • IC2 ingredients: coil, electric motor, mining laser, energium dust, advanced machine casing, advanced alloy, carbon plate, iron turning blank, tool box, lathing tool, empty fuel rod, gold cable, HV cable, glass fibre cable, diamond dust, energy crystal, heat vent, reactor heat vent, overclocked heat vent
  • IC2 machines: metal former, compressor, ore washing plant, turning table, most generators
  • Iron Chests upgrades
  • full watering can (empty has EMC value)
  • IC2 cutter, electric wrench, tree tap
  • IC2 hazmat suit, hazmat leggings, rubber boots, scuba helmet
  • bronze armor
  • AE2 wooden crank
Thanks again!

So on version 0.1.9.1, should i be starting w/o a questbook?
Yes, I have temporarily removed the quest book because I don't have time to update the quests. There is a still a craftable quest book with reward bags, but there is not really a point to using it in this version. Once I decide to update and add some quests and rewards, I will add it back in at the start. Although hqm is not really needed for the pack anymore and can be played fine with out it.

A few more notes:
  • I think that the EMC value of draconium ingots (something like 750,000 now) should be much lower. EMC storage maxes out at about 1 billion, not even enough for a draconic pickaxe. Plus farming draconium swamps other types of EMC generation.
  • NEI says draconium dust makes 2 ingots in an alloy smelter but it makes 1
  • armor/item status across bottom runs into the inventory at my (default) GUI scale and resolution (http://imgur.com/XeXVilr), perhaps place it down the upper left side of the screen
  • certus -> charged certus gains 192 EMC
  • note to the player that the Twilight Forest portal is disabled, or better yet open it up!
Items without EMC values:
  • certus quartz block
  • low covalence dust
  • IC2 overclocker upgrade, 1/10k/30k coolant cell, hot coolant cell
  • Blood Magic catalysts, binding agents

My computer broke this Monday and yesterday I set up the new one. I had backed up everything, so I have all the files, but thats why there have been no new updates this week. Keep giving me feedback. It's very helpful!

After Google-searching for a Skyblock pack that focuses on ProjectE, I found your modpack. I've downloaded and have been playing for the past couple hours. I'm stuck in the "Wooden Age" and cannot move onward to the "Stone Age" because I'm having terrible luck with getting rain to occur and fill my barrels with water. According to my knowledge of the currently included mods, the only way to command water into existence is with Thermal Expansion's Aqueous Accumulator, but that's a pain to make for someone who still has to sift dirt to get cobble. I even cheated-in a quest book to see if any of the quest rewards help, but no luck. It would be nice if there were an early-game alternative to getting one's hands on some water without relying on the RNG to create rain.

The first thing that comes to mind is to add the Rainmaker mod and have the namesake item be a reward for the barrel quest, but that's been overdone and almost feels cheaty.

Natura allows you to craft cactus into drops of Cactus Juice that can be used with an iron bucket to create a bucket of water ( http://ftbwiki.org/Cactus_Juice ). Instead of adding Natura for this one recipe and letting the rest of the mod go to waste, my suggestion is to use CustomItems and MineTweaker to create your own version of Natura's Cactus Juice that can be crafted from cactus and into water with either type of bucket. Maybe even call this item "Natural Cactus Juice" as an homage to Natura.

I'll try to find a creative way around it. Probably a crafting recipe like you mentioned.

Fantastic.

Also, I had never heard of Tree Growing Simulator before this modpack. I'm used to starting my Skyblock maps with some bone meal, so I felt forced to cheat-in two stacks. When I encountered my rain problem, I read through this entire forum (made me glad it's only 4 pages right now) to see if anybody else was having the same problem, and I read that you can twerk for your trees to encourage growth. I was blown away that it was even possible to code this. I recommend that you inform the player of this phenomenon early-on in the quest book as Tree Growing Simulator is less than well-known.

Another suggestion for the quest book: In the chapter "Tinker's" and the quest "Tools!", the quest requires that the two tools you make have the default names in order to grant credit. You can, however, rename each tool afterward by putting them pack in the Tool Station and typing in a new name if you want, but each tool may only be renamed once. I believe this quest should include these facts.

End Stone should have its value decreased again down to 448 EMC because it can be created by putting a bucket of lava (64 EMC) into a stone barrel and adding a handful of Glowstone dust (384 EMC).

Also, Draconium should not be worth 92 diamonds. I cheated-in a few items for a couple experiments. 100 End Stone sifted by an Automatic Sieve with a full stack of fortune upgrades yielded 12 Broken Draconium Ore and therefore three Draconium Ore Gravel (3% yield). 64 Draconium Ore Gravel bashed down with a diamond hammer enchanted with Fortune III yielded 125 Draconium Dust and therefore 125 Draconium Ingots (~195% yield). Statistically, this means one End Stone has a 6% chance to yield a full Draconium Ingot. As the numbers currently stand, a statistical investment of 17,545 EMC will yield 756,428 ECM, resulting is an investment return of 4311%. One could turn 2.14 diamonds into 92.34 diamonds in just a few minutes with the right technology. With solar panels and a Repair Talisman, the cost per process is zero.

If you keep End Stone at 1028 EMC apiece, then the math recommends that Draconium have a value of 17,545 EMC, so I suggest having it be worth two diamonds at 16,384 EMC. If you follow my recommendation to lower End Stone to 448 EMC apiece, then the math recommends that Draconium be brought down to 7,646 EMC, so I suggest having Draconium be worth three gold at 6,144 EMC.

If you want to leave Endstone at 1028 EMC apiece, then I recommend disabling the ability to make End Stone with lava and Glowstone so End Stone will warrant its Ender Pearl + Sandstone evaluation. If you also don't want to change Draconium's value, then I recommend drastically decreasing the chance for sifting one End Stone to yield Broken Draconium Ore down to .017% (1.7% of 1%) for Draconium to warrant such a massive EMC evaluation.

TL;DR
Everything considered, I believe it would be best to decrease the value of the Draconium Ingot to 16,384 EMC and disable making End Stone with lava + Glowstone in a stone barrel.

I just submitted an update with the previous things you suggested as well as some others, so the next update will NOT have these changes. I am working on a new update now that has those changes and that will be out early next week. Again, thanks for testing the pack and giving this feedback.

well, i know ive been away for a while, and here is my opinion. it feels open ended. a bit too much for hqm. then again, some time has passed, ill log on again, and give a second opinion. it wont be 2 months till the next response this time :p EDIT: well. after an hour, it feels the same, maybe the later game stuff is what is changed idk. but it still feels open ended

I got rid of the quest book and rewards bags. Now if you want to use hqm, you have to enable it yourself. I felt the same way that it was way to open ended for it.

that is fine. i just like the book, give direction (most of the time) and usually extends the playtime for me on skyblocks especially. skyblocks without just arent the same without it imo
