[1.5.2] [Public Mod Pack] ShneekeyCraft: Less Is More!

It seems as though the next version which will have the Iron Chests fix will also include the latest Applied Energistics update as well. I'm still holding off on Forestry for now, it seems to have broken more than it fixed.
 
Pack submitted to the mod pack team.

  • Iron Chests updated. This should fix the bug people were having with BC Pipes not connecting and Forestry bags not dropping properly
  • AE updated to 11.n. Major update, please check the changelog. May cause some of the re-purposed machines to vanish, but they -should- change to the new versions automatically.
 
Just as a heads up:

I will be involved in a trans-continental move, so July will likely be a Very Bad Month for me, and likely have limited to no Internet access during the month. Also 1.6 is going to be releasing soon, so this *should* be the final 1.5.x release before everything updates. However, my updating of the mod pack might be somewhat slow due to being offline for the month of July.

I apologize for any delay in updating to 1.6 my move might cause, however at least I'll be back online in time to catch most of the stable releases and update when I get back online. In the meantime, you'll still be able to play ShneekeyCraft 1.5.2. I won't be going anywhere, I promise. And no, I won't have disappeared/given up/quit.

ShneekeyCraft update should be live! Iron Chests are now compatible with BC Pipes and Forestry Backpacks.

However, when trying to download it, I got this error when clicking:

Unhandled exception in Thread[AWT-EventQueue-0,6,main]: java.lang.NullPointerException

I guess this means it is still in the queue to update?

Nevermind, I just had the filters set to third party for some reason
 
Pushing another build probably today. Not only do you get the updated Railcraft, but the updated Tinker's Construct as well!

New tools! New tool bench! Knapsacks! New equipment slots (check the diamond chestplate tab in your inventory, this is where the knapsack goes)

It does indeed have a lot of useful things. However, we're currently experiencing a 'feature freeze' for this mod pack until 1.6 comes out. The update which has already been pushed to the mod pack team that will release later this week is going to be the final iteration of this mod pack for 1.5.2.

It will, however, almost certainly be included in the 1.6 version of this mod pack.

Check your internet connection or your permissions. You need internet access to run Forge the first time. Otherwise, make sure to run it as an Administrator so it has permission to write.

Looks like you've got timeout errors. You aren't connecting to Forge's repos properly. Either your connection is bad, or they were temporarily down when you tried running it.
 
well i was able to successfully launch it just now. im guessing forge was down when i tried earlier. i will remember to update java next chance i get though.
 
UPDATE: 1.3.3.7

Several mods updated. Railcraft update pushed through. Railman's Goggles will not work, because I had to remove the Aura block so the Tinker's Constructs Smelter will function properly.

This is going to be a long-term release for 1.5.2, and will be the final update for 1.5.2. The next update will not be pushed until 1.6 goes stable.

I will be going offline for a month or so. Fortunately, it is probably going to take at least this long to get a stable 1.6.x release and all the mods updated for it, so you shouldn't see any problems.

I haven't left, I'm just moving. The mod pack isn't dead. You can still download the 1.5.2 version at ANY TIME via the FTB Launcher. It isn't being pulled from the launcher.

Okay, looking at the pace of updates for 1.6.x, one thing becomes apparent to me:

It is very realistic that I could release ShneekeyCraft for 1.6.2 before any of the FTB packs for 1.6.x are released. This is simply because I have massively fewer mods and headaches in this mod pack than the ones being released by the FTB team. Not all of the mods are updated yet, but most of them are at least in dev versions at this time (with Chickenbones and Railcraft being the exceptions).

However, in doing so, I will just about guarantee that I won't have any sort of compatibility with FTB configs, meaning it will be somewhat difficult for me to have the modular sort of 'add on mods' compatibility that I really want to bring to y'all.

Now, I could wait until Velocitan gets done with the compiled config pack. That would guarantee that I'd be 'FTB Compliant', and that you could drag and drop any FTB mod into the pack and expect it to work. However, that would mean not only delaying until the FTB Packs are out, but delaying until Velocitan moves a not-so small mountain of config files, which is a herculean task he has set for himself.

So it seems I need to make a decision: Do I release first and give y'all a mod pack to play with earlier, or do I delay and have configs which make it easy to drag n drop FTB mods into the pack yourselves?

Either way, since 1.6.x requires a world restart anyways, I will be instigating some major changes which I couldn't do earlier because it would mean world corrupting ID changes. These are really more 'behind the scenes' changes that make things easier and faster to update for you, but some of them are performance tweaks which should give you a slightly better performance. I'll also be including a couple of additional mods to the mod pack.

*Extra Utilities will be showing up, giving you a plethora of tools to use. I'm particularly fond of the item transportation system they have, it really makes piping as a whole obsolete, and is perfect for those small automation projects. Want to automate a machine with AE but don't want to have an import bus on that machine as well? Pipe the output back into the ME Interface with the recipe and save yourself the bus!

*Translocators will also be included, for additional automation options in cramped quarters.

*I'm still on the fence about Dartcraft, I'll do some testing when I get a chance.

*Mekanism and a few UE mods may make an appearance if they don't drop MJ support. Otherwise, I just can't see them being included. If they are, I'll try to do some kind of documentation for everyone. This is to bring additional power generation, ore processing, automation, and utility to the mod pack. Have you seen what some of the factories can do when you upgrade them? They can easily beat even an Induction Furnace in speed, plus can process seven items at a time! Of course, expect it to be a power hog while doing so, but that's just the price of doing business at blazing speed.

* Flat Bedrock will be included. This just makes sense to me. It may not be realistic, but it helps keep glitches from happening, and possibly preventing you from capturing valuable ores trapped within bedrock prisons.

* All mods from version 1.3.3.7 will be included.

I may also have a method for being able to easily include mods yourselves that I cannot get permission to include in the mod pack myself. It would involve using a different launcher which can bring up the download pages for those mods I can't get permission to include so you don't have to go hunting them down to include yourselves. That way, I do not distribute mods without permission, and you can still play with them.

So, time for user input! Do you want me to try for an early release, or do you want me to wait for FTB config ID's? If I go for an early release, I will likely do a massive overhaul of how I do item ID's, going sequentially on the hundreds so that users at least will know which ID's are available for use.
 
I'm all for an earlier release.

I use your pack specifically because it has a small number of mods, and because, happily, those mods are some of my favourites. I don't think I would add more than one or two mods myself, if even that. And in the event that I did, I doubt they'd be mods from the FTB catalogue, anyway - It'd probably be a less-known mod catching my eye or something like that.

Not a Dartcraft fan, so for myself I'd probably just take it right back out again. Lambchops are cool and all, but the rest is not my bag.

Mekanism is neat. I've only ever tried the UE group as a set, using the Ampz pack, and they certainly were very interesting. Of course, as you know, the documentation ranges from 'non-extant' to 'awful' and Mekanism seems on a mission to break my eardrums, but those are probably fixable problems. Atomic Science is my favourite of the UE bunch.

Those are my views on the matter. Thanks for the pack, looking forward to the 1.6 version. :cool:
 
I always add Bibliocraft, Xeno's Reliquary, MystCraft, Thaumcraft, Thaumic Tinkerer, Magic Bees and Extra Bees/Trees.
I dunno, I just like it. It adds a lot to the pack, and it is still lightweight enough that my friend who has a potato for a computer (no GLaDOS jokes here, alright?) can play with me.

Hmmm...

Well, Thaumcraft and addons are definitely a no-go, due to permissions, however I can set up configs for them so they won't conflict. Basically, ShneekeyCraft would ship with a bunch of configs for mods it doesn't have which are compatible with the mod pack, then you add those mods yourself and it bolts in seamlessly.

I do like Bibliocraft adding in some nice things to look at. Xeno's is kinda... meh. More magic than tech, really. Mystcraft would be a no-go for this mod pack. I'm surprised your friend with a potato for a computer can run with it, always seems to be a massive resource hog and FPS drain to me. But hey, I can always add configs.
