That's why Galacticraft added glowstone torches! Made the same as a normal torch, but with glowstone dust in place of coal in the recipe. They don't need oxygen for light.

I can only ever manually mine in there; in Ultimate I made the horrible mistake of bringing in my IC2 mining drill and chainsaw, and as soon as a cute little bunny hopped by while I was chainsawing a tree I felt like the bad guys in Fern Gully. I can't imagine how much worse it would have been...

That's not really drastic at all; just disable the mod at the launcher, load the world once and let it run a little to see, then re-enable.

Could be; disable it and see if the problem persists.

See if you can find what the configs were like with the last version that worked. It's possible that the new version's config values are different than what you had them set to before. That could explain a sudden change in behavior.

Thaumic Horizons was removed in the latest version of the pack; you could just update it instead of trying to fiddle around with bypassing this bug. I know there's also the biome ID conflict due to Thaumic Horizons; how many other game-breaking bugs does Horizons' recommended version have?

First and most important question: what version of the launcher? (Pedantic aside: "off the grid" means "off the power grid", as in generating your own electricity. It doesn't mean no Internet access)

It keeps the machine on and warmed up. You're right, it would be pretty pointless, especially since the power requirement to keep them running isn't much at all.
