I've sheared dye tree leaves before and they do give their dyes and saplings as well as the leaves when sheared. If rainbow trees drop a random dye of any color, I guess this would be feasible and very funny. Dyes aren't too hard to get nayways, nothing really overpowered comes from this, right?
