well, if you have lava generation and a good chunk of redstone you could make a heated redstone generator. 160 RF/t with lava and redstone that's fairly dirt cheap in running. Later on you can melt the redstone in a magma crucible and pump it in for double that output.

You're part right. The spawn chunk is where you originally appear first in that particular world (the overworld, nether, end, and any alternates made by mods like mystcraft each have a spawn chunk). These can be moved by the server admin but it's not a simple process. A spawn point originally...

A word of note on this, check the config to make sure they will spawn bonus seeds. The monster setup I configured was set to not do so. (it was also set to drastically lower the output of items from default).
