maybe do /hqm quest. ok Actually its enabled, the message is about the HC mode (with lives). You should be able to normally craft the book and do questing without any commands

if you did only /hqm enable, it should be fine. Do not look on the lives. But to be sure, maybe test that out (backup your world, kill yourself 3times and you will see) :D

If you will be given GT Credit for quest, its a bug. There are both quests for solars and coal boilers. But for progression you need to make Coal ones. As there are always multiple ways of obtaining goals, those specified in the quest book are the most used ways. it would be hard and nearly...

Make sure to not have full inventory. Otherwise during my testing I never had such issue. Maybe the material merged with same material in your inventory. Don't you have forestry bag? It could land in there
