I'd say just put/pipe the items directly into the Carpenter. Or if it is important for you to use a block next to it, replace the chest either with a RedPower Relay or the Buildcraft Hopper. While they do not posses the same storagespace as a chest, they will feed automatically into inventories...

I tried the first 300 Slots but that didn't work. As stated above I also tried the advanced drop and suck commands using the Inventory Module of MiscPeripherals. I get the feeling that to other machines the router appears to only posses 1 Slot which makes accessing any other slot externally...
