It looks like file is downloaded by vanilla launcher but then vanilla launcher fails to read it from disk. Check your antivirus log and settings. Reporting but to mojang/curse might be also good idea.

In this case there probably is not crashlog. Console log is safest because multiple reasons: In the launcher's options tab, check the boxes "Show Console" and "Reopen launcher when Minecraft exits". Then launch your pack again and when the crash/error/other problem occurs/game stops responding...

Honestly there is no reasons to feel yourself stupid. Curse should take most of the blame. They are are still offering download links to v5 launher when you download mods manually from curse.com.

find your pack from http://www.feed-the-beast.com/modpacks , click the pack, click "files", find correct version, click "+1 more", server files can now be found on additionals files section in the page. FTB launcher do not create server files. It just downloads .zip done by pack author.

Does it have identical hardware? That's their official statement. Luckily microsoft distrubutes that basic driver for windows 8.1 and windows 10 otherwise machines with that chipset would not work at all.
